Jurassic World Dominion Original Soundtrack

A fantastic final score worthy of the Jurassic name! Can't say the same about the movie...
Maestro Giacchino returned to score Jurassic World: Dominion to round out the trilogy that began in 2015. Is the third time a charm? Absolutely. Since Dominion is the conclusion of the Jurassic saga, old and new themes come together for a wonderful musical farewell. There's quite a bit of piano work this time around (more than likely for evoking nostalgia), but it works so well, and the old John Williams themes enormously benefit from these lovely renditions. The new stuff is great, especially the action-oriented tracks; "Da Plane and Da Cycle" is terrifically bombastic! I also dig the music from the movie's Malta scenes ("This Dodgson Burns Bright/The Maltese Dragons" and "In Contempt of Delacourt/Dance of the Atrociraptors"), and they really shine with the use of exotic instruments! With 32 tracks and nearly two hours of music, this album is longer than the previous two. Is it worth the $9.49? Yes! If you love Jurassic Park music (like I do!), add this album to your collection. Dominion balances the old and new with a marvelous score that pays tribute to what came before. Maestro Williams's Jurassic legacy is safe in Giacchino's hands. Well done, good sir!If you're wondering about this review's title, I was not fond of the movie itself. As someone who adores Jurassic Park, Dominion was a huge letdown. It didn't feel like the big finale it was billed as, plus it was all over the place when it comes to story. It's sad to say that because I was on board with the first two World movies. I'll stick with Jurassic Park and The Lost World (yes, I actually love TLW, come at me). Dominion is one of those cases where the music is better than the movie it accompanies.*There's an audio glitch on Track 5 ("Clonely You/The Hunters Become the Hunted"), but it's towards the very end.

Another Solid Outing for Giacchino
Although I found the movie to be pretty underwhelming, Michael Giacchino's score was most certainly not. Once again, he delivers a resounding win that I have also found to be a pretty good standalone listen over the last couple of days. If there are any criticisms about the film itself, this soundtrack most definitely does not belong on any negative list.Giacchino preserves the sound and atmosphere of his first two Jurassic World scores with familiar themes, and new ones that fit right in perfectly. The opening track of the album is one example of those new themes, and it's repeated use as the bedrock of this soundtrack is a welcome one. "It's Like Herding Parasaurolophus" is a familiar tune you'll recognize from Jurassic World, and was also great to hear again with a western twist.Overall, for nearly two hours of music, it's a great value listen. I am very happy that Giacchino got to complete the trilogy and put his signature on these films, as he just did with the recent Spider-Man trilogy. I am greatly looking forward to his Thor: Love and Thunder soundtrack here in a few weeks!

A Dominating Score: Giacchino's Score for Jurassic World Dominion
Don't know why, but one of the drawbacks to watching a new film at home, no matter how good your sound system is, is that the musical soundtrack is not quite as prominent as it is in a theater. And with movies in the adventure genre you also have an awful lot of special sound effects competing with the music. These problem are accentuated by the fact that since COVID many of us have gotten into the habit of watching movies at home. A lot of things are lost. Because of this you might have to see a film a couple of times, or simply go ahead and listen to the soundtrack alone to really appreciate the music. This has happened a number of times, most recently with Michael Giacchino's Jurassic World Dominion which initially was underrated. It should also be noted that what is essentially the full score has become available on Amazon Music adding some ten tracts to the original soundtrack. With all of that said, you really have to admire what Giacchino has done here. This is his third foray into Jurassic World, and you might expect an ordinary score paying homage to John Williams' original themes, and his own as developed in two earlier films. And, sure, you get a good of that, but they are cleverly interwoven with some really good new music. And what you end up with is something that stands up quite well. Indeed, this is likely the best of the three Jurassic World scores, and, as it is said, that is saying something. Giacchino is becoming as prolific as Max Steiner, in his heyday, and is hard to keep up with. But if you do it is usually worth it. It has been said that the Jurassic World films lost the wonder presenting in Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park, but that is something that Giacchino's music for all three of the Jurassic World films, and especially this one, has retained. His own theme for Jurassic world is a good one and has become quite memorable. His action cues for this film are kinetic (loved the use of percussion) and they are fun, something else he is good at (just look at his sense of humor in naming the cues on all of his soundtracks). There are some aspects of Colin Trevorrow's film you can quip about, but all in all it was a great summer movie, and Giacchino's score is a major part of that! As with the first two Jurassic World soundtracks, nicely produced and packaged by Back Lot Music.

Gorgeous soundtrack.
Beautiful soundtrack. Takes you on a journey from start to finish. Very reminiscent of movie scores from the 90s. Took me to a happy place.Even if you're not a fan of the movie, the soundtrack is tops.
