Well made for the cost.
I still love the portability of my ipod shuffle (3rd generation) but the control switch on the ear buds has long since died. I tried replacing with normal ear buds and an adapter similar to this one, but it broke only a couple of weeks later with very gentle usage. As soon as I pulled this one out of the package it was clearly much more well built.Plus, it is quite simple to use. And, since the price was so affordable, I don't plan on upgrading to a newer ipod anytime soon. I can't find anything wrong with the adapter and it came to our home in just a few days.

Works very nicely but it's extremely fragile
I've tried a number of these control adapters and this is my favorite because of its small size and functionality. However, as noted by others, it's EXTREMELY fragile, and tends to break and/or wear out easily so you need to treat it carefully. I've had a few of these and can assert that quality control is poor -- some are defective right out of the gate, such as having intermittent breaks in the signal, the button-containing cover can pop off showing its guts (but you can pop it back on and it's fine). I put up with this because I like its functionality but they really ought to improve the build quality. To those who would buy this: I recommend using it a lot right after delivery, and demand a replacement if there are any defects. And consider geting a protection plan for this item, it would be well worth it. One last nit: this tiny thing comes packed in a lot of stiff sharp-edged plastic that you have to saw through with box cutters to get it out, at the risk of getting yourself cut. This could certainly be improved.

More than a "Schoshe" better than the competition! #badwordplay
I have bought another one of these, from a different manufacturer, in the past. I use it when I am doing freelance transcription work, and I put the files on my iPod, so I can sit on my couch. Having an external pause button is way better than touching the screen a lot, and then it locks, and it's pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a person. This has a pause button, and volume up and down buttons. It is still working, which is much longer than the other one lasted. I don't even remember what the other brand is, or I'd tell you to avoid them, and check this one out. But instead, I would just say to check this one out!

Great idea, bad quality.
I have bought two Scosche Control Adapters. Now, before I delve into the review, I should say it was a crime for Apple not to include controls on the 3rd Generation iPod Shuffle. Now this device does work in the way it's advertised. By plugging this into the headphone jack and then connecting it to a set of headphones, you'll then be able to raise or lower the player's volume or skip music tracks. The problem is the quality of the product. I've bought two of these so far, as the ability to skip songs is important to me, as I use my Shuffle to workout and sometimes like to skip songs. My first set had intermittent failure, as the wires were damaged during hectic running. The second set has issues with skipping songs. The button seems to get stuck or doesn't make contact with the internal circuit. So with the two control adapters I have had, they've had poor durability. My recommendation is to either get an iPod Nano or leave the shuffle in shuffle mode.

WORKS for Ipod !!
had given up looking for a replacement controller for my Ipod nano(shuffle) until I came across this site. Works perfectly and even feels more durable then the ones I normally ordered directly from Apple. So glad they sale these.

Good concept, terrible construction
I was very hopeful for this adapter. I've been waiting for it for several months so I could use my Shure headphones with the 3rd Gen shuffle. Belkin came to market first with their own adapter, but since it cost $30 I still waited for the Scosche unit, mainly because I pre-ordered it already and it was a significantly lower price.I finally got the unit about a week ago. I used it approximately three times: first time just looking at it out of the box, and the following two times for approximately half an hour. At the end of my third use, the front panel of the controller fell off without any force, impact, or manhandling on my part. I put the panel back on and it partially snapped back into place, but it was pretty much a lost cause since it kept falling off after being touched once or twice. The same happened to S. Hendricks, who commented on this problem in another user's 5-star review. I will upload a picture of the broken device at the conclusion of this review so you can take a look for yourself. So here I am, still waiting for a decent adapter. Of course, Belkin's adapter is now out of stock, so I can't even order that one. It sucks that Apple made people buy an external adapter if they wanted to use a good pair of headphones, but it's even worse that a company can't their act together after announcing the adapter six months ago.Aside from that (major) flaw, everything else about the adapter worked fine. It felt cheap when being held, but it raised/lowered volume and skipped/paused songs like a champ. As far as I could tell, it did not degrade the quality of the sound, and it was small and flexible enough so I could put it in my headphone carrying case. I would have kept it for a long time if it didn't fall apart in my hands.

Works great, until the cover falls off
It works great out of the box. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Until the cover falls off. The "cover" is the side with the buttons. The cover snaps back on (if you don't lose it; it's a pretty small piece of plastic), but it will just fall off again. I'm still using it, but very carefully around the house. The cover still falls off, but I don't have to retrace my steps very far if I notice it's missing. In short, good concept, nice form factor, crappy execution.

Shuffle Adaptor
Fabulous product- the problem with the new Ipod shuffle is you can only use Apple's headphones and there are no sport headphones with the built in controls that are under $100/each. The adaptor allows you to use ANY headphones/ear buds with your shuffle. A little pricey for such a small item - however it is a lot cheaper being able to buy any headphones v. Apple products.
