Effective fly graveyard (disgusting, BUT IT WORKS!)
Okay, I'm giving this thing 5 stars, which, according to Amazon is "I Love It," but "love" isn't quite the right word, considering, as everyone has pointed out, this thing is about rotting flies and it stinks. But, THIS THING WORKS! When we moved in to our new house, we were surrounded by houses with dogs and had tons of flies. We never wanted to sit outside and the flies kept coming in to the house. My mother, who lives in another country uses something similar to these and suggested I try find the equivalent here. I have a large backyard with trees, so it is easy to find places to hang these away from the house. I would not recommend it if you have a small backyard for the smell is just too much and it is disgusting (it is NOT for inside!). When you set it up, it takes a couple days for it to begin attracting flies - the one that I have that is not exposed to very much sun is not as effective as the one that gets more sun (I'm gathering it's the rotting smell of whatever is in there that attracts flies). I hung them up and at first didn't see any flies attracted to it all. Then I realized I put the little red top in the wrong holes, which closed up the top and flies couldn't get in or even smell what was inside. So I put the red top on properly and within a couple days of it fermenting was in awe at the amount of dead flies trapped in there rotting away. Like someone else mentioned, I can't help myself to look everyday because there are just so many dead flies and it's just so disgusting!!! It also seems that the more flies you catch, the more are attracted so it fills quite quickly (I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I think it'll last another 2 weeks or so). I'm back to buy some more as they are so effective. I have cats and when I opened it, they were attracted to the smell, but since hanging them up, they have essentially left them alone, so that's not a problem. This is such an effective product and so easy to use. It is non-toxic which is important if you have pets or kids (we use enough pesticides in this world, do we really need more?) and I would highly recommend it. We have gotten our backyard back, so can't be happier.

Southeastern NC Has ALOT of flies!!!
I live in SE NC, by the beach. You would think the flies wouldn't be bad in a coastal environment but every year we struggle to even open our doors as flies would get into the house. HOWEVER we also have chickens, which do create a fly haven. I put one of these near our chicken coop at the beginning of spring and it has done a GREAT job at minimizing the fly population near the coop, its great when I walk over to the coop and I don't have flies landing on my head. This product works really well. Then, since I bought the two pack- I put one near our sliding door going out to our side yard, I put it up on 28May24 and by the end of the day it had a TON of flies, and when I open the door, there are no flies coming into our house!!! I am about to buy another two pack for our garage (where we keep chicken food and bird seed) and our front door. This product works very well...and people say it smells but I have not smelled anything!

I Reverse My Earlier Review
Update - Jul-5-2016Well, shortly after writing a poor review (5 days into the traps being hung), the one trap now has thousands of flies in it, while the other about a third of the amount. See my attached photo. As the summer kicked into more heat, these bags get nastier. I can appreciate what others are saying about the odor, but ordinary house/black flies lay these eggs in feces, decaying flesh, garbage, etcetera, for goodness sake, so they gravitate towards stinky stuff. While nothing will rid all flies (far more bugs than any humans), this trap works and has certainly mitigated the number around our few acres - especially the living areas - patio, pool, etc. In terms of the ordor, I just keep moving the bag further into the wooded areas. If you don't have the property, then you may want to consider another method. Lastly, while this has caught tens of thousands of ordinary house fly, it has caught other flies and bugs as well. Less bothering us around the pool - especially evenings. For some reason here in the pine barrens of southern NJ, our property got hit with tens of thousands of ordinary black house flies. Never saw this prior - mild winter, who knows. I did some homework and even poultry farmers pointed to this product as the best. I bought the two pack just shy of $30 for essentially plastic bags and some smelly stuff. Five days in, one trap has a single fly in it and the other zero! I am not exaggerating when I say there are thousands flying around and I'm calling in expert help for the first time in my life for real help. Bugs ordinarily don't bother me, though this is over the top - can sit or work outside without being attacked. I'm surprised as I thought the concept was sound and the smell would certainly attract them. I even moved the traps closer to our outdoor living areas and still no flies. Not impressed. I don't see this thing picking up pace, although I could be wrong. At this point, it seems like I threw $30 bucks away.
