It seems that some solvents and plasticizers used in Big 3-Free products are not compatible with the ingredients in / formulation of Seche Vite (Butter London brand in particular). Seche Vite was the first patented single procedure non-yellowing dry fast top coat for nail polish that dried and protected the underlying nail polish much faster and created a more durable shield than anything else on the market and even to this day. Here's the deal. This product is unique. It is meant to penetrate the layers underneath it, drying them all at once. In fact, the product bonds with the base and color layers, creating one strong coating. Hence its durable nature. Additionally, this top coat self-levels. This means ridges, small polishing gaffes, and shaky application is remedied by the product itself, as it creeps across the surface of the nail and settles evenly, every time. I paint my own nails and have for years. This is the hands-down-best-top-coat-EVER!!! I will honestly never buy anything else again (I do use the base coat as well). YES, Seche Vite is unique in that it must be applied over WET polish to work. WET!! If it is used over dry polish (or other dry surfaces, whether base coat, top coat, or just your nail), it will end up peeling off and won't do its job. Seche Vite is also known for not smudging nail designs compared to other top coats.Definitely apply over wet polish. But I should say: you don't want your polish to be totally dripping wet so that the Seche Vite brush picks up globs of it or ruins the design. However, I usually just put my color on one hand or even on all 10 nails, and then follow them up with Seche Vite.
