Purple Rain Audiophile

This is IMO the best I have ever heard Purple Rain sound. Both the ATMOS and stereo mixes are great. Lyrics are crystal clear... I can finally here everything he is saying in all of the songs. Bass is much more deep and defined. I am so glad this disc exists as opposed to say a SACD, which I would only be able to play in my loft as opposed to any of the BD players in my house, not to mention this was only $20... probably would have paid twice as much having to import an inferior dated format (if it existed).

Not sure Prince would approve of this Dolby Atmos Mix. There's something weird going on with it. Hard to explain but it sounds a bit "distant" as compared to the stereo mix. I have several Dolby Atmos Mixed albums. This one is just OK. Could have been so much better. Seems like another money grab. IF Prince wanted to do a remix, this wouldn't be the one he would have released. I hate to say this but it is the worst Dolby Atmos Mix I've ever heard and I have a full Dolby Atmos calibrated system.

I don't have a ATMOS system but the stereo sounds pretty messed up on tracks. As did the ATMOS Track. At least it could have been salvable with good "accurate" stereo mix. But Noooo.

Possibly the best version of Purple Rain to this day. Amazing dynamics and fidelity. Hi may need to upgrade your 7.1 system to really enjoy it but isn’t it time you did that anyway? Lots of fun sound steering and voices and instruments right over your shoulder. Even if you’re not a big Prince fan, just as an example of the best in modern production techniques and songwriting you should add this to your collection. Worth every penny.

Very disappointing mix. Needed a lot of attention with the Atmos settings to create more of an immersive experience.If you have never calibrated your system with an affordable decibel meter, plan to do so. It’s an easy task and well worth the time spent. Also called, setting your speakers to “reference”, invest the time in YouTube videos to learn how to do it.Doing so even made this terribly mixed Atmos disc sound better!

Listening on my 5.1 system, everything sounds great! Nothing recessed into the bckgrnd or anything odd, as others have mentioned... If anything you can finally hear all of the wild layers of synths, gtrs & fx that were always smothered into the bckgrnd of the stereo mix. The surround mix is definitely balanced differently than the stereo mix that we all know, but once you get over that surprise it's a fantastic listen. Like hearing it again for the first time thru different lenses. No complaints here!

I was so looking forward to this. But, it's pretty awful. They have Prince's voice mixed so far into the background that it's hard to hear. Just horrendous. I may just go ahead and return this thing.

Honestly, this sounds great, especially when selecting Dolby Atmos. I don't have Atmos but I have 5.1 surround. It folds down from Atmos to 5.1 extremely well. Seriously, I'm hearing sounds that I don't hear when playing it in stereo via cd...or this bluray audio stereo mix. I use a Panasonic ub9000 bluray player and an Onkyo a/v receiver. I can't vouch for other people but for me it sounds the best I've ever heard this album since its release in 1984. I know this album, I've listened to it countless times. Incredible.
