An excellent and effective self help book
I stumbled across this book by accident and I'm so pleased I purchased it. I've got genetic knee OA with one bone on bone and the other trying to catch up. I'm 55 but my knees think they are 97. I detest everything about the OA and all the problems and pain it causes so am always looking for anything that will help. The book has short, concise chapters on different parts of the body. It's easy to dip in an out of so it was very quick to understand what has been happening and then to pick a list of simple exercises which started to work their magic very quickly. The results - my 'better' knee has stopped collapsing (so no longer causes other debilitating and painful muscular injuries), my knee flexion is improving, walking has quickened and is steadier and I feel generally stronger and more mobile. And a LOT happier. The chapter on 'the curious case of the stiff shoulders' also gave a name to my mother in laws very painful shoulder condition that her useless GP diagnosed as 'it's just old age dear' so she's very happy too.NHS help for OA is woeful if like me, you are not prepared to swallow mountains of useless painkillers or face major surgery - you must help yourself to keep mobile and reduce pain and with a bit of effort this book will help achieve just that. The You Tube and website videos are very helpful too.

Over 100 exercises with detailed illustrations and clear, science-based explanations
This is an excellent book written by physiotherapist Will Harlow. It contains over 100 exercises focusing on all the major joints and ligaments to treat pain and stiffness and improve mobility and independence.Unlike many physiotherapists I attended who merely download exercises from websites with little or no explanation to the patient, Will has the rare ability to explain what is causing the pain / stiffness and come up with specific exercises and explains how these exercises address the issue. This gives the patient the motivation to stick with Will's exercise programme. All of Will's exercises are evidence-based and are underpinned by his detailed knowledge of his subject and understanding of the science of the human body. Will also supplies a weekly '3 Tip Friday' video which can be downloaded free of charge covering the latest in research findings. These videos are a very valuable complement to Will's book 'Thriving Beyond Fifty'. I thoroughly recommend the book as a hugely valuable resource for mobility and freedom from pain, and excellent value for money.Eugene BarryDublin

A “Must Have” Book for Anyone Over Fifty!
An excellent book for anyone over the age of fifty, who would like to improve their strength and mobility. The exercises have clear photographs with easy to understand explanations from Will Harlow, a qualified UK physiotherapist & Registered Healthcare Professional. His exercises have already improved my posture, balance and walking speed and I can’t recommend his book enough!

A treasure trove for keeping fit and healthy with age.
Dear Will, many congratulations on the launch of the new release of your book, Thriving Beyond Fifty. I have been an avid viewer of your videos on Youtube since over a year and immensely benefit from the workouts explained. I had also pre-ordered for your book in Aug-2024 itself on Amazon and received it in Oct, on launch. The book is very well presented with good font size for 50+ and the chapters with illustrations are structured beautifully, with crisp problem descriptions and solutions. On the very day that I received the book, I couldn't keep it down till I went past the chapters on Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (relevant to my wife who is herself a Paediatric Consultant) and Tennis Elbow (DIY'ers elbow - which is rather relevant to me now-a-days!), even though the actual onset of this problem started 15 years ago after being a competitive player of badminton till I was in my late 30s, following which the shuttles and rackets tended to become increasingly biased in favour of my son who caught the bug and has carried it on with him into Univ.! I have since been managing with IFT therapy to my elbows periodically, in addition to clocking ~10k steps each day (not to mention that having a budding Labrador helps inevitably:-)I also bought myself a Knee pillow(despite my daughter's giggles) to get some relief while sleeping, from the meniscus tear behind my right knee. I look forward to following your bonus video on building muscle with a planned routine to make the necessary adjustments to my workouts for maintaining optimum bone health and fitness. Thanks again and all the best wishes for your endeavours.

Really please with this book
I am a 69yr old female who try’s to keep herself reasonably fit. Wills’s youtube channel is brilliant as it focuses on my age group!! So helpful. I purchase his book and use it as a reminder of what works when I have jiggling pains or just don’t feel flexible. It is so well laid out that I don’t need to flip pages too much. The text is clear to read and beautifully written in a very readable style. TheOnly reason I gave it a 4 star review was because of the quality of the production (thick paperback on not brilliant quality paper). That clearly kept the price down but I use the book a lot and it isn’t going to last like a tougher produced book does.

I Fell on the Floor and couldn’t get up! I needed help!
If you are looking for help with getting greater flexibility as you get older, this is the book for you. It is packed with strategies for getting and staying more mobile and, importantly, remaining independent and staying off painkillers. It’s very easy to read and the explanations of the exercises are crystal clear as well as there being pictures to help as well. It’s extremely important to try out the exercises that relate to whatever it is important to you. I suffer vertigo from an ear condition and only discovered recently that I was completely unable to get up off the floor without help. I had let myself get weaker. Will’s book and his YT videos are helping me to address that.
