KNOBS DON'T STAY ON!

It's flat. My motorcycle is not. 'Tis a shame.
I really wanted to like this. My GL-1800 is my baby, and although I don't keep a lot of bling on my Wing, this seemed like an easy thing to do..... and it's so nice and shiny.First off, the radio cover arrived in a box without any information or instructions. Hey, I'm handy. I'll figure it out. Test fitting it, I saw that this cover just fit on top of the existing cover. There are little cutouts by the knobs that allow you to turn them even though the cover sticks up a bit. Okay, that'll work. There was an adhesive sheet in the box with the cover - the shape of the cover was die cut into the foamy, sticky stuff. So, I separated the relevant piece from the rest of the sheet and attached it to the inside of the cover, leaving the paper on the other side. So far, so good. Then I pulled the existing black knobs from the radio to get ready for the shiny new ones.I peeled off the adhesive backing paper and stuck the shiny new plastic radio cover on my bike, being careful to press down on the adhesive once it was properly located. Cool. Looks good. Then I put the knobs on. Oh oh. There's a problem. One of the knobs just wouldn't push onto the radio shaft. I monkeyed with it for a minute or so and got a flashlight for a closer examination. It seems that the metal insert for one of the old knobs was left behind! Easy to fix. Pulled the little piece of metal off of the radio shaft with the needlenose and returned it to it's home in the old, black knob - just in case I ever want to use it again..... More on this later. Now both of the shiny knobs are in place and the cover is there as well. I went over to the bench to get a cloth to remove my paw prints from the plastic chrome shininess and when I came back, I noticed that one side of the plastic cover had come loose from the bike. The cover was still secure, but the right side wasn't stuck down any more. So, I pushed it back down, giving the spongy adhesive another chance. Then I wiped everything down so that it was nice and pretty and congratulated myself on a job well done.About an hour later, I returned to the bike and found that that the right side had popped up again. I pushed it back. Checked it the next morning. Same thing, except both sides had popped up.As it turns out, the new plastic radio cover is flat. The radio on the bike, however, is not. The tension from bending the flat plastic to cover the curved radio surface is apparantly too much for the adhesive to overcome. It'll stick down for a few minutes, but it won't stay that way. I'm tempted to hit the new cover with a heat gun to see if I can curve it a bit, but there's a real chance that I'll ruin it if I try. In any case, the adhesive will be toast after that, so I probably won't.Therefore, we're giving this three stars because it's pretty and because if you really like it, you can put it on your bike. The sides coming up don't really affect its operation, but it's enough to get me to remove it.
