What a great kit
So I'm not diabetic but pre diabetic. I wanted to know which foods are causing problems with my blood sugar. My doctor told me to stay away from potatoes, pasta, breads, etc. yada yada yada... So I got a this glucose meter. You can learn to 'Eat to your meter'. What you do is eat a meal you normally would eat and two hours after, test yourself. Now I've been having a single thing like popcorn, then testing 2 hours later to find that it isn't a culprit. I can have oatmeal but not cereals like Cheerios. I can have potatoes, even fried potatoes but I can't have french fries. Even the ones you buy in store and heat yourself. I can have pasta too (Yay!) but no rice. This test kit is enough to give you a great start to a list of foods that you personally should stay away from. It's easy to use (my first time using a glucose meter and it was easy peasy for me), and pretty accurate. You basically have 100 tests in this one kit. For some people, that's enough to give them a good diary full of foods that they may have thought they couldn't/shouldn't have when they actually can. The price is right too.IT'S SCIENCE FOLKS! I found it quite fun really. I kept a good food diary and I've been able to lower my A1C even more now.If you do have diabetes and need a glucose meter, this is a great option. A good thing too is that the test strips don't cost an arm and a leg. The meter records things too. I pretty much recorded on my tablet what I found out and my numbers but this little meter with the big numbers that even I can read, has a memory so you can record on the meter itself your numbers and even notate those readings and meals that worked well.Great glucose meter folks. You can't beat the price. It's accurate and easy. What more could you want?

Well designed and effective product with unclear directions
I'm not a diabetic, but I am following a ketogenic diet. I wanted to find out if some of the products I was buying containing malitol were having an effect on my blood sugar, so I bought the testing kit. Well, it did the job (and I found that malitol--despite the claims on the packaging--affects my blood glucose almost as much as sugar does). Anyway, this is a well-designed product that works quickly and effectively. In particular, I liked the carrying case, which enables you to pack everything into one small package. It would be very useful for someone who really needs to carry it around and test themselves several times a day. My only criticism concerns the directions, which were very confusing to someone who has never seen or used a product like this before. I'd recommend that the manufacturer make several changes to make the directions clearer: 1) Please show pictures of the product with the cap on and off (so that we can see where the cap ends). 2) "Unscrew the cap" should be the first direction.Nowhere is it mentioned that the cap unscrews! I spent a long time trying to pull it off! 3) Please make it clearer that inserting the blue plastic part containing needle usually primes the device, but if it doesn't all that is required is pulling back very gently on the very end (this is explained, but not clearly). 4) Please eplain that the part that pops up when the product is primed is the small clear plastic bump on one side. That part is very small, so it's hard to tell by looking whether or not the product is primed, but if you look carefully, you can see that it turns orange when the device is primed. 5) Finally, please make it clearer that it is pressing down on this small plastic bump that operates the device. When I figured out the directions, the kit was very easy to use. It works quickly, gives consistent results, and is reasonably priced.

Good Value for Complete Blood Glucose Testing Kit
I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and was prescribed metformin to help keep my blood glucose levels under control. While I don't require daily BGL monitoring, my NP suggested I might want to purchase a testing kit to track my progress. After doing some research, I ordered this CareTouch Blood Glucose Monitoring System because it had good reviews and I liked the fact that it includes just about everything I needed in one kit.So far, I've been happy with my purchase. I appreciate that CareTouch included batteries for the glucometer, a carrying case, two 50-count packs of testing strips, a lancing device, and 100 lancets. The only thing it didn't include was CareTouch Control Solution, which is advised to test the system before using it the first time, when opening a new pack of testing strips, etc. It took me a little while to track down the solution (Amazon didn't have it in stock at the time I purchased this kit), but when I finally found it and tested my new system, the result was in range so I was good to go.The system seems to work well, though sometimes it's a little challenging to remove a single testing strip from the container (they often stick together), and sometimes I'm not quick enough after inserting the testing strip to clean and prick my finger and squeeze out a large enough droplet of blood, so the screen will go blank or give me an error before it reads my blood sample. Hopefully I'll get more efficient in the testing process with continued use.The first time I tried this kit, I did two fasting glucose tests a few minutes apart; one read 139 and the next read 129, so I'm not sure what would have accounted for a 10-point difference in just a few minutes. It does lead me to wonder about the accuracy of the reader. But overall, it's been working well and generally seems to be within a correct range. (I did a fasting BGL test around noon today and it read 97.)I can't comment on how well the lancing device/lancets work, as I didn't want to deal with the hassle of loading and unloading the lancets in the device, so I purchased a separate set of disposable safety lancets that automatically retract after puncturing. But it's nice that this set includes a lancing device/lancets for those who don't want to purchase additional supplies. In summary, I feel this CareTouch kit is a great value and a good choice for newly diagnosed diabetics. It's fairly easy to use, although I did read the entire user's manual (vs. the quick-reference guide) to make sure I understood exactly how to operate it before using it for the first time. If I were a Type 1 diabetic or someone prone to diabetic emergencies (like Diabetic Ketoacidosis or Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Syndrome), I might have more concerns about the accuracy of the system; but as someone just casually monitoring my BGLs in the leadup to my next appointment, I've been satisfied with the performance and value of this kit.
