London Wok GJ495 Round Bottom Wok, 13"

I don't usually write reviews.....only when something is really good or really bad. This wok is in the really good category. I was not expecting such good quality for this price. Made of sturdy steel that is robust, but not so thick that the whole thing becomes too heavy. The handle is good quality wood and securely riveted in place. I agree with the other reviewer who said not to believe the negative reviews...presumably written by folks who didn't understand the need to season it properly first. You'll need to put in an hour or so work to do this, but it's not difficult. After cleaning off the protective layer with a steel scouring pad put it on your gas stove. You need to get it hot....really really hot and hold it over the flame to make sure every bit of the inside gets hot enough.....you'll know when that point has arrived because the steel turns a beautiful gun metal bluey colour and shimmers. Smear some oil into the wok at this point and keep it cooking. You will get smoke....lots of smoke!! Keep it cooking as the lovely blue colour turns shiny black and the amount of smoke decreases. When its done smoking, you're done seasoning. I repeated the heating with oil part a second time. Start to finish I was done in an hour and now I have a fabulous completely non-stick wok that is sure to me many years . Why didn't I chuck my non-stick coated wok ages ago?....ive eaten most of that Teflon coating over the years....yuk, it's not good for you and also means you always have to be careful not to scratch the surface. Not so any more with this carbon steel wok.To test it out I gave it a challenge. The only thing that challenges a non-stick coating more than a fried egg is a scrambled egg...so that's what I cooked up. Absolutely no sticking at all....the scrambled egg just glided around in the wok like it was just hovering over the surface. A quick wipe afterwards to clean and job done.Excellent product, highly recommended. Also, arrived in double quick time....1 day with free standard delivery

Take the time to carefully season and maintain this wok, and time and time again you'll get some great culinary results! Definitely one of the best cooking purchases I have made, correctly seasoned gives a great non-stick finish. Weighty, very solid build and looks great! Recommend investing in a wok stand adapter for your stove top if you don't already have one.

Not as good as I hoped , didn’t seal that well and handle is a bit short

Spent a short time conditioning it, which is essential and makes a brilliant cooking surface.Sturdy, strong handle and mount, steel seems good, it blued evenly when I treated it and works really well.Not too heavy at all, good mid-sized all-rounder. Probably deserves 5 stars but that would imply perfection and that isn't possible! Very good though.

Unless you have a dedcaticated wok ring or conversion ring..dosnt sit...such thin metal..like 2 layers of tin foil...complete waste of money..returned it and bought a Tefal.

What a lovely, well made and robust wok. Great instructions on how to season it that would be useful for those that don’t know and having done a few meals already, it is looking and feeling great.

Forget "non-stick" woks, this is a real wok! 2000 or so years of cultural and culinary development have gone into this simple yet perfect pan. After proper "seasoning" of the wok (instructions provided with the product or look online) it is a truely phenomenal piece of kitchen kit. It's basic, it is what it is - a quality wok, the likes of which you don't tend to find in any UK high street chain store. If you're lucky enough to have a Chinatown near you, you probably aren't looking online for a wok, if you don't and have a decent gas hob then you could do a lot worse than this excellent wok.

I was amazed at how much it changed in appearance after seasoning it,first time use no sticking and really enhanced the flavour of my food. A great buy
