Why all the hate?
I do not understand all the negativity towards Reolink. I replaced my (not that old) Lorex 4k 8 channel PoE system at my residence with this. I am BLOWN away at how much better this system is in literally every category. The cameras feel extremely well built, the app is 100x more refined with no bugs I have come across. The installation (after running your Ethernet cables) is simple. Price is on the lower end considering the image quality and motion detection. Speaking of motion detection, it is so smart it is scary. The only thing I don't know is how they will hold up in my climate. I live in central Ohio where it can be as cold as -20F and as warm as 105F and sometimes swings more than 60 degrees in days. So far though I can't recommend this system and Reolink products enough.I purchased this 12mp 4 camera 8 channel system and added a Duo 2 and spotlights, and a PTZ. I love how you can literally add any Reolink PoE camera and the NVR automatically connects it in less than a minute. That aspect really sold me. The motion detection is so much better than my previous Lorex system it is insane. And I can't get enough of the features in the app

NVR failed after 6mo, Warranty required paying for shipping
I’ve owned and used this for about 6 months. The setup, operation, and iOS are straight forward and easy to use. The motion detection is ok but not very smart it frequently thinks objects are people and other stuff like that. There are lots of configurations and options that can probably make it better, but I am hoping they make it a little smarter in future updates. The cameras are pretty clear and I have no real complaints other than I wish the reset and power cords were in the camera and not on extra cords. They just don’t look good when installed. The NVR failed after 6 months. Just died. I contacted support and they did a warranty return and replace and it’s working again. The only thing I am disappointed in is that I had to pay to ship the dead one back to them. I hope it was just a manufacturing defect and the new one will last a couple of years.

works great
With a little DIY knowledge there not complicated to install. where and how to run the wiring is the most difficult. Just finding where to access and where to run. Mounting the cameras was easy with the provided templates. They were easy to hook up and easy to configure. the picture quality is good even with infrared.

Easy to Setup
This was much better quality than the nightowl brand I bought and return. Clear video and easy to use app.

The perfect DVR system, I highly recommend it.
A lot better than expected, clarity, definition, function, features, seamless online access.

Without a doubt, the WORST camera system on the market today - hands down, It's just bad...
FINAL UPDATE (May 2024): I just got plain tired of this horrible system to a point that I finally threw it into yesterday's garbage pickup. Kept the hard drive and camera's, just in case. Now I'm finally off to find a reputable china-man product to replace this system. I made the worst decision last year, when I didn't return it after initial problems. Thinking it was actually going to get better within time, boy was I wrong. Welp, lesson learned.UPDATE (Jan 2024): I'm dropping ANOTHER Star. This thing is just HORRIBLE for playback option. Next Year I'm purchasing a better one from a different china-man manufacturer. For $600 bucks, the technology is the same as 2018 technology. Playback is in slow motion, sometimes it just quits, no matter what source (laptop, 2 other Android phone apps) I use. For $600, NO THANKS!!, and Reolink has lost me as a repeat customer, lesson learned.UPDATE: I'm dropping ANOTHER star because of the user interface app on laptop is horrible. Don't know what I did? However now I'm missing 1 camera footage and there is NO setting/link to allow you to reset!!!??! You would figure there would be a simple "right click" option with your mouse to enter a setting called "reconnect or something to that nature. This is truly GARBAGE especially regarding the High price of failed engineering.First off, during the day it's okay vision depending on how much sun is out and the angles.Night time - It's horrendous, when people walk down the neighborhood sidewalk it looks like ghostly images with their movements. Definitely, you will NOT be able to make-out the complete face of someone. In fact, you will not be able to tell if they have a beard or not, from 25 feet away. Or if they are wearing glasses. Unless there's an artificial light source available. Or if they walk under a street light, which it would still be hard to determine and Zoom doesn't really help much with the situation. Zoom is okay during the day, but definitely not the greatest.NVR Unit - eh boy, here we go. First off, if you're looking for a Light Show? This will fit you well. However, I keep mine in my bedroom (connected to my TV). I had to tape-off all front LED's with Black electrical Tape. The sides throw off a very bright RED Glow from the internal board. That's one thing I shake my head at; WHY in the world would these developers not offer the option to turn ANY and ALL LED's off, especially the INTERNAL BOARD LED"S? It makes NO Sense to me, whatsoever [BAD DESIGN]. Then there's the Rear LED's (ethernet lights). Who needs to see these blinking LED's all the time?!! Again, have an option built into the NVR menu to turn these OFF-F-F-F-F-F!! [Failure on the developers shoulders].Software/App - Again, nothing to write home about. First off, In the "playback" menu within the NVR you CANNOT view (2) cameras - or - more with the 12MP cameras. You're only allowed to select (1). Again that failure falls into the lap of the software developer. Plus, when viewing playback of any camera, again, you CANNOT copy footage you MUST "CUT" it from footage. Meaning it will be removed (deleted) from original footage. Same applies to the laptop/Windows, app. However, with the phone app you ARE ALLOWED to copy footage and can be saved onto your phone/SD Card. Again the developer's flaw on "Copy" vs "Cut" within NVR and Windows app.The detection settings option, seem to work fine if you set to a low sensitivity setting. Haven't tried the push notification to email, option yet.The Talk-back/microphone option, is also horrendous. Sounds like you are talking into a hollow tin-can and the person outside can barely understand anything you are saying. Same applies for the "Alarm", it's barely that loud and has no volume control, even if I adjust the volume control.Let's get to the "Clear" vs "Fluent" viewing option - On playback if you have it set for "Clear" then the video footage Lags and jumps forward to catch-up with time. The timing is so much delayed, it's pathetic. So you might be thinking, "why not just use the FLUENT option, then"?... WRONG, because that will defeat the purpose of clear footage quality, making it look grainy. But at least the video wouldn't jump & lag as bad. The SPOTLIGHT option works okay for up-to, about 15 feet away, also provides little clearer picture. All in all, it's okay for what's available on today's market of opportunities; (comparing to other systems around this price point). The 12MP barely beats my old technology cameras (1080P 2MP) from 5 years ago. You would figure they would have advanced tremendously throughout the many years, especially at this price point?Would I purchase this again? Eh, I would probably purchase a lesser model by another manufacturer, instead. Because the payoff isn't worth the extra costs. Also don't fall for that "coupon" gimmick as a "savings". The current price including "coupon" is the EXACT SAME price I paid, earlier in the year. Plus it's the SAME price on their website [smh].

Probably should have 4TB drive
Easy to setup, cameras work great, video quality is fantastic. Motion detection capture and identification in past records is great, can filter for motion by person or animal (dog), etc. 4 cameras for me is about 5-6 days history. This NVR will do 8 cameras, but you would only get a day or so of history with 2GB. Can only have 1 internal drive with this NVR, will consider an external unit later. Overall, setup with their software was easy. Had to go to their support site to get the proper software for my Mac; Apple App Store had a different version that did not work. Can connect to my NVR with iPhone and iPad. Works remotely too. Each camera comes with 60ft of POE Cable, I didn’t need to purchase additional cable to connect the cameras. I upgraded from Arlo… huge improvement.
