I will comment on the design which is nice. It has a nice size cast iron burner ...
I received my burner today, but I haven't used it yet. As a matter of fact, I don't even know if it works. Anyway, I will comment on the design which is nice. It has a nice size cast iron burner as described, along with the steel body casing which I love so that I can use pans larger than the burner without worrying about the body of it melting. I will follow-up with a review on its performance very soon.Since writing this review, I have had the pleasure of putting this burner to use. It was amazing at how fast it heats up, however, smoke came barreling out around both knobs like there was an internal fire going on inside of it. The smell was like burning wire. While alarmed and watching this thing closely, after about 15 minutes the burning smoke and smell started to dwindle. One would ask. "why didn't you unplug it?" well, for starters when it comes to new high-voltage electrical small appliances my husband and I always test them outside with our kitchen extinguisher nearby. As far as the way it cooks, well let's just say we finished off on our kitchen gas stove. I would suggest this for small item cooking and not large heavy pots.

Terrific Buy
I purchased this as a substitute for using the gas range in my camper, with the excess heat of the gas, and poor temperature regulation. The results, perfect! I use it with my 11' cast Iron fry pan, and 10" griddle, as well as a 2 qt. saucepan with perfect results every time. It maintains the heat you set it to, and even egg beaters, and glutin free pancakes come out perfect every time, which are both subject to scorching if gotten too hot. But when I want the heat, I do hash browns and stir fry with the same perfect results. Heat up is quicker than on my (8' burner) gas range, and I don't kill the air conditioning. I haven't found a down side (other than no degree numbers, just an uncalibrated scale), works better than expected. A comment was made about rusting, duh, its a cast Iron burner. Treat it with a little oil (I use flaxseed) when cool, like any other cast Iron cookware.

EDIT: Died just past the 30-day return policy. NOT good:(
I'm sorry to say I need to change my review. After just a month of very occasional use, it has stopped working altogether. I hear a click when I turn the power on, but the LED indicator doesn't come on and the plate doesn't get hot. This happened halfway through heating water for pasta. (Yes, the power outlet works just fine.) LUCKILY, since I bought through Amazon, they were very nice about making an exception to the 30 day policy and gave us an immediate full refund on it as well as providing a shipping label with which to return the defective burner.I'm not sure if there's an electric solution, so we're going to get a propane+ burner instead. The OLD review:Very stylish, but most importantly, it has enough power to boil water quickly. Others with less wattage have problems with doing so in bigger pots.Another thing I like is that there is an on/off dial on the left, and a temperature on the right, so you can leave the temp setting in place.I spent a lot of time researching this and brought others back to the store. This was only found on Amazon, and was well worth the price and trouble.

Only 900 Watts, Not 1500 Watts
This burner may advertise as "1500 watts" but the manual states, "1000 watts". And as I just learned, it is neither. When I unscrewed the burner, I saw that it clearly stated "900 watts".If you have small kids around, I highly recommend spending a little more for a UL listed burner. Mine just broke after one year of every day use because the wire insulation was burnt and brittle. And as I began to touch the insulation, the insulation just crumbled to ashes.Other than that, it is an energy efficient burner. It heats up fast and continues to cook for a while. But this burner cannot be left plugged in the outlet continuously. At times the burner will automatically turn itself back on even though it is in the "off" setting.

Stylish with one issue
A high quality Appliance much nicer than the price indicates. True stainless steel. Full variable temperature adjustments. Heating surface is solid disk for easy cleaning and even heat distribution. Rubber feet prevents Appliance from sliding around on the countertop. Wish it had an indicator light for power on (has one for heating or not). Easy to forget it is still on when temperature has been reached. Will only reach moderate boil in a large pot, not vigerous boil. I still recommend it with these limitations.Update:. 2 months of use and it quit working. Someone said the contacts inside are very flimsy. When I opened it up indeed that is the case. The connectors on the end of the wire is very soft metal, expands, and become loose. Tightening those fixed the problem. One can buy better connectors and replace them to fix the problem. Otherwise it is a very well built hot plate.

Extra burner to use outside when camping
We bought this hot plate to use outside while camping. It does get very hot. It works great and I have no complaints. I Would purchase this again

Great for heating up coals for Hookah, IF you use a foil tent.
At first I didn't think that this worked for what I bought it for, to heat up my Coco Nara coals. The coils are under the black top thing, so you not directly on the heat source, which was enough to not get my coals going very well. I found a solution though, in a foil tent. I shaped a piece of aluminum foil with a cup bottom to put over the coals while they are on, and it gets them red hot in no time now. When my first attempt with foil didn't work to well, I put a air vent hole in the top of my foil tent to allow for circulation. I wouldn't of thought it was bad if it didn't heat my coals up, since that isn't what it was designed to do.
