Intermediate level player here, I love this guitar. It's sound is beautiful. The build quality is really good as you'd expect with Yamaha, tunes good, keeps it's tuning good after a few plays, good size. Nice to pick up and play. Fantastic value. If you're a beginner trying to learn, or an intermediate wanting a classical guitar to record music , this is what you're after.

Wonderful Instrument, Beautifully crafted.
I bought this Classical guitar as I had been using an Acoustic with steel strings which is so difficult to play !!This instrument is so much easier to play and has a lovely warm sound.I would advise anyone who has trouble with playing to seriously think of this Yamaha guitar. You will not be disappointed.I now play the guitar every day with renewed interest !!!

Unfortunately I returned mine!
After spending literally weeks in researching for best options in terms of good classical guitars at an affordable price tag, I've decided for Yamaha C40! I read many and many reviews on Amazon, watched many Youtube reviews from experts and musicians, and in general, they say good things about C40, the reason why, after a failed order on a Tanglewood discovery, I ended up choosing the Yamaha C40!When I opened the package I was indeed happy to see the guitar! It looks good and the general feel of the body is very nice! They come with 6 nylon strings ready to be tuned and played! To tune the guitar, I used Guitar Tuna, a free App from Google Paly Store, wich automatically detects the string played and bip a sound to let you know when it's on the right frequency! So why I returned the guitar?Well, as soon as I played the first cord, there was a strange feeling of disappointment! You know when you have hight expectations on something and you are expecting it to be amazing and in the end...So, unfortunately, that was the feeling after playing the first cords on this guitar!I must say it has been a while I don't play and this could have played a role in the way I felt but I was expecting this guitar to be much easier and comfortable to play, especially because they are beginner's guitar!Unfortunately, when the strings are in tune, they feel much hard on the fingers than other guitars I had in the past.Obviously, this is something you will get used to after few weeks of playing the guitar but, there was something more which became the main reason I've decided to return it!It looses tune just a few minutes of playing! I know this is generally an issue on new classical guitars but I was expecting it to stay in tune for at least one hour or something like that!I tested this during 3 days and no major change, so I thought that paying more than 100 quid for this is not worth it.Another reason that made me return it was because, as it is black and the finish of colour is glossy, it will let you see every fingerprint on the guitar! As a beautiful guitar it is, I find myself cleaning my finger prints on the guitar body every time I play it, so there's no point to having a beautiful guitar like this if it will always look dirty just after holding it!Is the guitar bad?No, I wouldn't say that! In general, the guitar is not a bad product! As you can find by yourself, there are plenty of good reviews from musicians or professionals on the internet about Yamaha C40 and, this guitar is known to be a good option so does Yamaha.I just didn't have good experience with the option I chose and maybe after reading many reviews I was expecting too much and probably if I had chosen the natural coloured one, my experience and review would have been different. So to concluded, I've decided to go for another option which is half the price of Yamaha C40. I will go for a Valencia Classical Full Size and hope to have a better experience! In the end, as I just want to have a guitar at home to play from time to time, I think I will be fine with it.'[...] If you didn't, I'd love to know why so I can improve the usefulness of future reviews.Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Top notch. Now my favourite guitar.
I’m genuinely suprised by just how good this guitar is. Really great tone, action is comfortable and the intonation is almost perfect! I’m changing out the tuners, bridge and nut but the supplied parts and strings are of high quality. Highly recommended.

Great value for money
I have a number of guitars and wanted a Spanish style but didn’t want to pay too much. So after some research, decided to try this.Out of the box it played and sounded great. Restrung it with quite expensive strings to see if I could get an even better sound. To be honest there was not a great difference so it must come with decent strings to start with. For around a £100 it’s not going to look like premium model but it looks fine. The way it sounds and plays is more important for me and if I’d payed three times more I would still be very satisfied.Overall, a bargain.

The right guitar made my son fall in love with playing
My son is learning to play the guitar at music school. When we bought him his first guitar, we didn’t know what to look for and chose one with a narrow neck. He played that guitar only because he had to practice. When we got him this guitar, he truly fell in love with playing. Now he plays with joy.

Far worse than expected...
The bridge of my 1960's Hofner was coming loose, and I wanted a cheap guitar to use while the Hofner was being repaired. After looking at, and rejecting, some of the really cheap models, I decided that this guitar, the black Yamaha C40, which had such good reviews, would be suitable. The tone was very good, but the one I received had frets that had not been finished properly, so they had rough edges that caught against the hand while playing. It also had a narrow strip of white, presumably undercoat, showing at the top back, where the final coat of black varnish had not been completely finished. The sharp fret edges made it unplayable for me. I assumed that this was a 'Friday afternoon' model, and had it replaced. But the second one was, if anything even worse! There were white bits showing, not just at the back but also around the sound hole, and the frets were just as rough as the first one!So, although this is a nice-looking guitar (unless you look closely), and sounds good, the finish and attention to details are lacking. For a guitar that costs over a hundred pounds Yamaha could at least smooth the fret edges off properly! So I returned the second one too, and bought a much cheaper, but better finished, guitar at my local music shop.
