Q: can it be used as a trash can?

No, definitely not. That was my original intent but the regular trash bags do not fit around the opening.

Q: Are there any holes or gaps in the container part? I'm looking for something nicer than a plastic container to store dry cat food.

I had the same idea! I actually use it for my dog food storage and it works great! I’ve fit as much as a 40 lb bag of dog food in there, so it holds up pretty well. :)

Q: Whats the difference between the 5220bk & the 5220esp besides price?

There is Hardly any difference.. Apart from price.
