Get to know your 352 from your 442 and your 4231...
This is the first football book where I have really learnt something. Very well written with an expert view on the game explained simply. The piece on tactics is very informative as is the Nike/Adidas rivalry and its part in the economics of the game.A definite buy for the footie fan who wants to know more!

Interesting book with some very honest views on things we all like to think we know about football but don't really. Some of the anecdotes along with insight into motivation, training etc were interesting.Only annoying thing for me is that the book is too short - could easily have had a few more chapters but I guess that's what the next book will have!

Four letter football.
I bought this as a present for a football crazy 10-year old. It is an eye-opener as regards what many have long suspected about top-level professional football - It is in the hands of big business and geared to making money out of supporters. It is a good insight as to what goes on and well worth reading from that point of view. The anonymous author no doubt reports correctly various conversations on or off pitch. This begs the question as to whether professional footballers that are presented as a role model for aspiring younsters should have their use of four letter words reported. I am far from being a prude and will use expressive language in the right company, but I took that view that a 10-year old should be preserved from seeing such language in print and attributable to potential role models. All I can say is that an adult purchasing a copy for a youngster should read it through first and decide whether it is suitable for the youngster in question.

Tactics and the such like explained
After having previously read his first two books and his views on the game from an insider's point of view I was especially looking forward to his take and explanations of football's finer points, it's tactics and it's training regimes. I wasn't disappointed and am pleased to say that if you enjoyed his first two books and also have an interest in football tactics you will get a lot out of his latest volume. I not only enjoyed reading it but also got a lot from it as I was taking a coaching qualification at the time. If you'd like a deeper understanding of the game from someone who is playing within it purchase this book. I've got that much out of it that I'm on my second read through.

More insight from TSF
Well worth reading for the Secret Footballer's take on modern football - not just stories of footballers this time, but more insight into the game itself

Good read, some nice insights and comments on aspects of the game that many are too happy to remain ignorant about. It was however far too short. Pity, as what I read I did thoroughly enjoy.
