Blast From My 1970's Past
I'm getting a bit crusty now. I notice that when I have to accompany standing up with a grunt and a few words of encouragement to my old knees.But...I still retain the brain of a child. At least that's what my wife says...And this can be useful because joy of joy I have two grandchildren of nearly six years old vintage which, are an utter blast to me, because I can indulge some old memories of which Spirograph is one.I loved my Spirograph set when I was a child way back in the early 70's and spent literally hours using it. So, when my twin grandchildren, AKA 'The Bubs' suddenly developed an interest in colouring I spotted my chance and bought this set for me - I mean them...And we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is almost like how I remember my original set. Okay, whilst the blurb says 'Original' that's not quite true because the set is different in layout and content. Still the same idea though.I was perhaps jumping the gun a tad with the age of The Bubs, as they are five and a half so just a tad too young to be able to use the set by themselves. However, with a bit of help from Grumpy - that's me - we managed to make passably decent shapes.Overall this is a great alternative to the mind sucking tablet and computer games that ever younger children seem to get hooked into and I for one encourage anything that engages their attention that isn't on a screen.

Good basic set
Purchased this for my Granddaughter. Was a little surprised at the size of the box, looks a lot bigger in the image. Thought their would be more discs, with it saying 30 pieces, but didn't read the full contents description. Still good little set.

Disappointed
Poor quality set. The wheels do not rotate smoothly within the main outer ring and the putty does not hold the ring to the page. The 'guide book' is difficult to read as the font is very small.I am so disappointed with this product - I loved the original Spirograph!

Nostalgia time!!
A smaller set than I had in the late 1970’s, it was probably the deluxe size however, the basics are here. The first difference is that you get spiro-putty (blu-tac to you and me) instead of little pins to anchor the ring, I suppose they were a bit small and could pose a health and safety issue. I would recommend using 8 pieces of the putty rather than the suggested 4 so that it is more firmly fixed down and stays in place better. However, the wheel skidding is par for the course with Spirograph…Another small difference is a new rectangle shaped “wheel” called a “bar”. Don’t think I had one of those. It takes a bit of getting used to but it’s OK.There are 2 gel pens and 6 felt pens. The felt pens have quite long nibs. If you are going to try using other pens, it’ll be a bit trial and error. If the nib is quite wide and fits the hole snugly, it could be OK but a fine tip will be too small for the hole and will skid about.

Pricey for the plastic bits
Loved Spirograph as a kid so bought for my daughter’s 8th birthday to reliving the joy with her… The set came with a set of felt tip pens. Little use - why not biros any more? They just dont work well and bleed to much into the paper that it tears after a couple of rounds with the shapes. Also my set must have been in storage a while. The putty was very dry and could barely be squished. We switched out for blu tac. That now works fine but for the price paid would have hoped for less faff.
