Code Sample
I’ve previously been reading through the ebook _slowly_ and got about one third of the way through it over several weeks. I purchased the physical book to primarily support the author but also to have some bedtime reading which doesn’t force me to look at a screen. The content is brilliant and at least for me a super enjoyable way to learn Rust. Whilst it’s a book on backend development I actually found it most useful for reinforcing parts of the Rust language. Two minor negatives:- The choice of grey colour palette for the code samples. Grey text on a grey background is hard to read, especially in low light. Also it’s unnecessary, black and white code samples are perfect.- Amazon “look inside” is misleading. When I received my book I expected the inside to be in colour.

Perfect second book on Rust
For use after reading The Rust Book (or equivalent) - for me this book was ideal. It takes you through a whole project, start to finish, gradually building complexity & showing / explaining best practice ways to implement common requirements in Rust. E.g async webserver, databases, using useful crates and macros that speed up development. You'll also go through deployment of the app, security, and plenty more. Working through this has helped me to cement and apply the knowledge from the Rust book, which focuses more on syntax and core elements, now we’re breaking out into actually implementing things. I found it a little more relatable and memorable than going through another theoretical book. The level you need to be to get through this? Everything is explained clearly, and using language relatively inexperienced folk can follow, if you got through the Rust book and have done a bit of coding before, you’ll be fine.

I’m a 24/7 Rustacean thanks to this book!
I had the opportunity to be able to read some chapters of this book as Luca was writing them. I had already attempted a number of times to learn rust before but gave up due to the steep learning curve and lack of time. So wasn’t expect much to begin with to be honest. However this book takes an interesting approach to slowing introduce you to the concepts that are unique to Rust while building something that is conceptually very familiar to any web/backend developer. This keeps the journey interesting while explaining you complex topics like lifetime, error handling, security etc.I highly recommend anyone learning rust to give this book a try.
