Manrose QF100T Quiet Extractor Fan with Timer for 4"/100mm Duct

This fan does make noise as you would expect from a spinning electrical device; however, unlike our previous 10-year-old fan (that this replaced) the noise is substantially less. It is not silent by any means however the key difference for me is the motor noise/vibration does not transmit in the wall. This key difference means the fan is inaudible in other rooms (or outside the bathroom door) and makes a huge difference in our home.The flow rate of this fan this wipes the floor compared with our previous fan. We used to leave the old fan on all day simply because the walls were sopping wet! Now with the new fan, the walls are still damp after a power shower but they are dry after the 30-minute run-on duration (I set it to the max so that we can turn the fan off and know the room will still dry out). Duration kind of doesn't matter however since the fan is silent outside the room and you could, in theory, leave it on since it is also approximately 1/3rd the power use compared with our old model.It is also worth noting that technology seems to have moved on and the enclosure is a lot neater than our previous fan, in fact, it looks half the size from a bulk perspective and sits much tighter to the wall. It is a 100mm square/standard-fit so there was only a little drilling to seat new screw locations in the wall and the wiring was straightforward enough since the old fan was a similar run-on model so there was already a switched live.Another thing to note is there are no side entry grommets for the wiring so our old surface-mounted wiring required me to creatively adapt the case with a small hacksaw so that the wiring could enter the chassis. Now I'm guessing in a newer house than ours with plasterboard this would be fitted with rear entry cabling however in an older solid wall house you are left with wire chasing or case adaption (I choose the later).There is no led/light on this model (which was an oversite on my part) so I will now have to replace the pull cord switch in the ceiling since there is no other way to tell if the switch is ON/OFF other than waiting 30 minutes to see (if it is important to you that this is visible on the fan itself then I suggest another model with integral on/off light).All in all, I'm happy with the fan and would definitely buy this again should the need arise.

I needed two of these fans to replace two older models. They perform very well and are quieter than the older types but I would question 60% quieter as claimed. It makes me wonder why these companies don't simply produce the quieter fan as standard. Easy to install (two lives required - one for light switch and one for the timer which runs after light is switched off). There is another model (QF 100S) that simply requires live from light switch as it has no timer. When fixed they protrude about 30mm from surface but look smart. They require a 100mm hole for ducting (not supplied). Both fans came together in one box and were well packaged (fixing screws not supplied). Delivery was within 48 hours of ordering with standard delivery. The price is excellent. Local (I live in Channel Islands) electrical retailer was charging £34 per unit (B&Q £39). Less VAT I paid £19 each; £4 more than one purchased locally. Easy to fit and working well.

Good value, easy to fit, silent. I have three of them fitted in my house. They don’t last very long before they need replacing. I’ve probably used a dozen over the years.

My extractor fan had died so this was a simple replacement. Prior to dying, it was a relatively noisy extractor fan. Nothing too distracting, but that's because I had little reference to noise levels. Not only was it noisy but the sound was very harsh.I had gone through a variety of extractor fans and noticed there were some very cheap options so wasn't sure the merit of paying £35.99 when you can pay significantly cheaper. Indeed I've even found this item cheaper elsewhere.Nevertheless I figured a quiet fan was worth a go, and I'm glad I did. This was really easy to fit, mainly because all the fixtures were already there as this was dimensions wise a like for like replacement. Now the volume. The fan gives off a gentle hum, and sounds more like a gentle wind than a fan, and is noticeably quieter.Glad I got it and can recommend but keep an eye out for cheaper vendors.

What we expected as we bought this product before. Works well, fit perfectly and quieter than other products.

The new one was an identical version of the old one. Couldn't believe how quiet it was! Perfect thank you. So easy to install.

Manrose fans are generally well made and last a few years of regular use. A problem with all these types of fans when replacing an old one is that there seems to be no industry standard for the cable entry location or wall fixing screw positions when you change manufacturer, which means you have to be wary of drilling any extra holes in the wall if you are replacing a worn out fan. I usually resort to drilling the required holes in the fan body using a paper template made from the previous fit. This model runs nice and quietly BUT the tube in which the fan itself sits is slightly larger diameter than other models and is a very tight fit in a standard plastic through wall vent tube, which is fine provided that the vent tube is exactly 90 degrees from the wall surface in every orientation. How likely is THAT? Other models have a slightly smaller tube which allows for a slight misalignment. You might like to check your vent tubing alignment with a Try Square before ordering this one. Adjusting the timer can be awkward as the adjusting screw is on the top, so if you know how to do it safely you might want to set that before you start fitting it to the wall.
