Addictive game!
I was first introduced to Runbow when me and some friends gathered to play Wii U. It was love at first sight, I could't believe a game so simple could be so much fun so I decided to buy it for my New 3DS. It is just addictive, hard enough to be challenging, easy enough to keep you entertained. Cheap and fun, give it a try! Now I'm getting it for my upcoming Switch too because playing it with friends is just hilarious.

A charming platformer, but can't quite reach it's full potential
I had never experienced Runbow before, but being a big fan of platformers and desperate for something to take advantage of the New 3DS, I decided to pick this one up. Runbow plays out a bit differently from many other titles. The goal of each level is to make your way to the trophy, but like the name of the game suggests, color plays an important role. The background color constantly changes through a cycle of colors, and all platforms and hazards of that color essentially vanish. So if you stand on a blue platform and the background changes to blue, the platform is not in play and you'll fall. The main challenge is reaching the end while adjusting the the level constantly changing. It makes for many challenging and fun stages.Single player is fairly standard, but there are alternate modes to help shake things up. Included with the game is a voucher that unlocks the DLC from other versions of the game. Satura's Space Adventure plays out more like a puzzle game where you hit switches to alter what platforms are available. The Bowhemouth is a lengthy gauntlet of challenging stages with zero save points. Completing the main story mode will take several hours, and Satura's story and Bowhemouth also can take around an hour each to beat on a first try. There also are a few bonuses and unlockables. There are costumes for your avatar along with bonus characters from other indie titles like Shantae and Commander Video. The game gives hints on how to unlock them, but content will be unlocked as you naturally play. There are some problems with the game, unfortunately. Despite the alternate game modes, the game is very short. There is multiplayer (more on that in a bit), but unless you want to get full marks on each stage and get a good time on bowhemouth (which there are no leader boards for, so it's only bragging rights), then you'll run out of things to do fairly soon. And while the stages are fun, none of them really stand out that make me want to go back and play them again. And finally, multiplayer. Perhaps due to the game's multitude of delays and quiet release, multiplayer has been a ghost town. The one time I managed to find a match, it played fairly well. The three game modes include racing to the end of the stage, trying to control one section of the level, or a fight to the death. Races were my favorite, but again due to low player base finding a match is borderline impossible. It's especially frustrating since there are characters that can only be unlocked in multiplayer. Also matches are restricted to four players, down from nine in other versions. There have also been a few technical problems as well. During my time playing I have experienced one hardlock and several game crashes. They seem to happen during loading screens. It's not too big a deal since the game automatically saves after a level (although I could imagine a broken console if it crashed in Bowhemouth), but enough times that I have to bring it up.Honestly recommending Runbow Pocket is a bit of a catch 22. On one hand having more people with the game will mean more people playing online, the main hook of the game in the first place. But with such a niche title on a niche system (being New 3DS exclusive), it probably won't reach enough people for an active online community. Add to that the fact that the 3DS version only supports 4 person online rather than 9 like the Wii U and PC versions, and Pocket Edition just doesn't quite measure up. I do prefer having physical copies of my games, but I would probably recommend purchasing a digital version for PC when it's on sale.

AAAHHHHH! BEEEEP! Next!
Maybe this is for kids that have good thumb dexterity and fine controller skills. Drove me !@#$%^&*() crazy trying to get...maybe got 4 screens cleared. Was just looking for fun and easy side scroller maybe with a little bit of challenge. Scale: Pikman (fun but it feels wrong if you stop to think about what you are doing), Chibi Robo (a little harder and annoying but then you realize you can spend coins to pass seemingly impossible levels yet instead of giving up you'll spend the time to complete the game just to spite it,is that the right word, I used other words while playing it), Runbow (I hope the neighbors didn't hear the string of profanity having to restart after every little mistake, and somethings will leave you thinking "it's not possible!") Told who I gave it to, if you can't play it then trade it in for something else.

"NEW" is not a description of the game, but the console!
I blame Nintendo, not the seller. This whole "new Nintendo 3DS" thing is confusing! I bought this game for my 3DS XL and it is not compatible. After a bit of research I understand why. Nintendo made another console with the exact same name and dimensions with the exception of the word "new" before "Nintendo 3DS." And the games are not compatible! So stupid. At least give it a different name. Like a dunce, I thought the word "new" meant that the GAME was new. Oh, well. Live and learn. Maybe someone can avoid the same mistake after reading this. Hope so.
