Clean, crisp line in the ceiling, fits flush, quality unit.
I could not be happier with this unit. My handyman installed it in a hallway with a bit of framing and drywall texture. It has a clean line and is barely visible. Perfect for a high-end home. The opening is very large, enough to move ducting, insulation bags, or other bulky items into the attic. It opens with a push-click and then hangs down with cables about inches. Then undo the carabiners and it falls to a vertical position. When closed, it's perfectly flush with the ceiling. It comes with a drywall panel that can be textured and painted to match the existing ceiling.

exceptionally good value compared to most other options i am aware of, the latching mechanism is sound, the the hatch cover can be easily removed, and the drywall looks nice. But the welds were built up excessivly, and very poor quality. From what i understand, product is designed for use in conjunction with insulated roof decks as opposed to insulated ceilings, as the gasket is clearly not substantial enough to prevent air leaks, nor is it insulated, or readily insulated. if you wish to use this product in conjunction with an insulated ceiling, you will have to frame out the opening with plywood or some such material, and construct an airtight plug, resting there in- of insulation that you can remove to the interior space, or push out into the attic space such that you can gain access to the attic while maintaining some reasonable r value across the hatch.regarding the welds.i did not hesitate to grind them flush seeing as how superficially they seemed to be of good quality, however there was quite literally 0 weld penetration, and as a result, when i had ground the welds flush or nearly flush, the frame literally fell apart in my hands.the operator must have been running a spool gun setup at very low amps with the weld being cleaned aggressively there after. if i had to guess, this was done to prevent distortion of the aluminum. ideally it should have been autogenously tack welded with a tig torch at the stop and start, and welded over with the spool gun at a proper amperage. but it wasnt.confusingly, the bottom of the welded joint showed signs of aggressive grinding as well, leading me to believe some discoloration and weld through was present at one point, but clearly weld through was not the issue.i welded for years in high school, stick, gtaw, and mig, though never with a spool gun. ive never seen an aluminum joint made ever with such a small amount of penetration that still looked reasonable... its quite confusing.i have a tig cart and everything necessary to properly repair the frame so im terribly mad, but be warned. the welds should not be tampered with.regardless i cannot fault the product for modifications i made. nor can i infer that it would have failed had i not made the modifications.to the contrary, were i not to grind the welds flush, i am confident it would have been fine.the welds however, prevent the frame from sitting flush with any wood framing. in my case, these welds lands on top of 12 gauge galvanized steel joist hangers, so simply gouging out material with a chisel or saw was not possible.
