I have tried several different pairs of heavy duty, cold weather gloves, and none of them would keep my hands warm. Even snowmobile gloves would allow my hands to get so cold that they actually hurt after about 30 minutes. I didn’t like the idea of giving up the use of my hands, but I needed to try something else, so I went for these mitten. Problem solved. My hands are no longer cold on our 4 mile walks in cold weather (a daily routine for us). I found that I really don’t need my fingers outside the mitten very often at all. I do like the strap that comes with the mitten so on those rare times I do need my fingers, I can slip the mitten off and not worry about losing it. I can’t respond to how waterproof it is; we get cold weather but we seldom get snow, so I have had not opportunity to test it (and I’m not crazy enough to walk in a cold rain). I can just say, when the weather gets below freezing, these mittens come out and they make the daily walks much more enjoyable - no hurting hands!

Not completely waterproof. Works ok for skiing but a good liner is needed for the colder days.
