This tester has helped me tremendously with our campus. We have a 1:1 program in place for students and Wireless Network connectivity is a Priority. Having this tool to help test and identify issues is an asset i cannot do without.

Boat Anchor Garbage folks. All it does is eat your wallet. For best Networking testers the best out there is Net Chaser and Net Prowler. Work all the time and less expensive than this hunk of junk.

It does what it says. It's a big yellow wifi-finding device. Yeah, you can do all of this with free software on a laptop, so there's that.

The AirCheck is a wonderful basic tool for evaluating existing wireless environments or planning for deployment of new ones. My consulting organization has used this in many client environments across various industries where it has identified the actual wireless issue and allowed us to fix the issue. The tool provides information on various aspects that really allows for zeroing in on whether the issue is related to signal strength, noise / interference from other devices, over-utilization of a specific access point or frequency; additionally, it provides some network-level tests outside of the wireless to help test end-to-end actual connectivity.We have found many cases where clients had added WAP's thinking the issue was caused by signal strength when in reality we were able to identify that the issue was actually due to non-802.11 interference on various channels, which the AirCheck, shows. In other cases we have found there just was not enough coverage when the client thought they had plenty. Still, in other situations, we found that the WiFi network was not setup correctly for clustering / roaming so single WAP's were severely overloaded while others were barely being used.Yes, there are other tools you can use and some apps or software for mobile devices or laptops / tablets, etc but I have found that the simplicity of this purpose-built device, instant-on activation and very useful data capture and reporting (excellent for providing to clients or saving as a snapshot point in time for a record to compare against down the road) makes this a wonderfully effective device for core WiFi visibility.This is not inexpensive but if you find yourself without any visbility of a WiFi environment and are looking for actionable data then this is certainly worth a look. Highly recommended.
