Hello Everyone,I, along with my wife Sandra, are the owners of Cat-Man-Doo.  For some time now we have been selling our Freeze Dried Wild Alaskan Salmon and recently we have been informed that there are some wild rumors on Amazon about our Freeze Dried Salmon.  To help our customers understand how and where we get our salmon I have laid out all of the details below...     So our "Life Essentials" Freeze Dried Wild Alaskan Salmon is manufactured in the following way.  The Salmon itself is caught in Alaska and then quickly "Flash Frozen" for transport to a Freeze Drying facility in China.  Once it arrives at the freeze drying facility the salmon is then cut into cubes and freeze dried into its current form.  These Salmon cubes are then shipped to us in bulk where we inspect, process and package them for distribution all over the USA and abroad. Now I can hear you say in the back of your Mind.... China?  But before you condemn the entire nation let me tell what we did here at Cat-Man-Doo to assure the highest quality product.  We picked China for one main reason.  After searching the entire United States and Canada we could not find one location within the USA or even close to the US that would be willing to produce this product.  Freeze dried salmon is a Japanese, Chinese and Philippine based product.  They use these salmon cubes in cooking and soups.  Its just not an "American" product.  Our particular salmon cubes are made to meet the FDA standards for Human Consumption.  The facility that we use to freeze dry the salmon cubes is an FDA certified packer.  This means that they produce products that are used for human consumption and those products must all meet or surpass the standards and testing protocols that the FDA requires.  Many tests are performed prior to releasing this to the pet market.  The fact that a US based company does not want to make these types of products does not shock me.  Although there is a demand it is mainly from the pet industry.  With all of this being said we would still like to say that we would purchase from a US supplier if we could only find one.  The last thing I would like to mention is this.  We spent a good chunk of money to hire a consulting firm to go over to China and inspect the facility we were doing business with.  We wanted to make darn sure that the $85,000.00 purchase we were about to make was going into a quality company.  After doing a thorough inspection our consulting firm gave us the go-ahead.  The facility we use is awesome.  It's like a medical center.  Tons of precaution are taken to make sure the final product is 100% safe and 100% delicious.  On a personal note, I would like you to know that we spent almost two years researching and calling many companies here and abroad trying to find one that could make the Freeze Dried Salmon cubes that cats and dogs love so much.  We took every precaution known and we spent a ton of money on consultants and inspectors to make 100% sure that we were getting a great product.  I can tell you with all honesty that spending all that money and time was worth it.  Our manufacturer is awesome and for the past 8 years they have been freeze drying our salmon and doing a great job at it.  We truly understand the issue that some people have with China and their track record has not been the best but people need to know that one bad company does not mean the entire nations manufacturing is bad. Can people eat this? I need to find some freeze dried food for a trip!

I won't even eat people food that was made in China. I shudder to think what the factory looks and smells like. There are probably no regulations or sanitation requirements there concerning pet food (not that they would be much concerned with them anyway). I wouldn't feed this to my cat either since it most likely has a percentage of freeze dried spoiled fish because I doubt they throw it out. They probably even cut it with local caught fish waste. Think about who you are dealing with here (china factory) and make up your own minds.

Is this salmon processed in China?

As far as I can tell it is not -- nothing on the bag identifies made in or processed in China. CAT-Man-Doo Inc is located in Belleve, WA.

Question 4

Do the cubes still have the skin on them?  My little 8 pound cats have problems eating the skins that are on the brand I currently use.

No there is no skin, just the dried salmon meat.  The cubes are small enough that they don't have to be broken up and crumbs are limited.   A previous brand I used was always a quarter crumbs and this product isn't.
