Great numbing gel that is safe for vaginal intercourse
I came across this product after searching the internet for a very long time, so I'm writing this review to help other people in my situation. For those of us who suffer from painful vaginal intercourse, whether it is from a condition or just because we're new to it, there aren't many helpful resources online. I found this on a site for people with vulvodynia and though I do not believe that I have this condition, trying to have sex was absolutely awful and the pain was so bad that we could not continue. This product is not technically approved for use during vaginal intercourse, but given that other people had previously used it I went ahead and tried it. I will say that it does produce a very unpleasant burning sensation upon first application, but after a minute or so it fades and honestly it is nothing compared to the pain of trying to have sex without it. After the burning fades, it takes about 5-10 minutes for me to have sensation dulled to the point where I don't feel any pain and it lasts for quite some time (at least 20-30 minutes) if you apply enough (it's a good idea to mix it with lubricant also). Before anyone freaks out, yes it is possible to have painful intercourse as a female if you are adequately aroused, lubricated, and ready in every way possible. I also spoke to my doctor about this product and she said though it is not officially approved for this use, the ingredients in this product are safe and as long as there are no side effects that are clearly a result of using it that I can and should continue using it for as long as necessary. For me personally, this product was a life-saver. I am old enough to make my own choices and wanted to engage in sexual intercourse for my own reasons, not anyone else's, and this product made that possible. I would suggest this to anyone in my situation if they have tried everything and still had no positive results. Also, it numbed pain and I'm sure some other sensations but it was not as if I could feel nothing during use. I was still able to enjoy the experience, in case that is a concern for anyone out there.

Great product
This is a great product and the only one that I could find in gel form at the 5% lidocaine level. It burns for about 30 seconds when you first put it on but after that, it is quite effective. I will certainly buy this product again thank you for making it available!!

Didn't work
This product did not provide any pain relief or numbing at all. I also thought the consistency was off- wasnt really a gel, maybe more of an ointment like vaseline. I wouldn't buy again. I have tried a few different brands now, but the only lidocaine gel that really works for what I need it for is prescription strength lidocaine. jelly.

Wonderful product
This is a miracle product! I have nerve problems in my left arm and hand, which causes extreme pain, particularly in my finger tips as well as itching on my palm. As a medical transcriptionist, this caused much difficulty with my work. The pain was so bad it was like typing on red-hot razor blades! I had a lidocaine cream prescribed for me, but it was 3% in strength and didn't help. Strangely, I couldn't find a 5% RX, except in ointment form. To find what I thought was a prescription medication on line was amazing. Topicaine allows me to type all day long with minimal discomfort and it totally cures the itching. And the fact that it is a gel which dries quickly, stays on my fingers and doesn't goop up the keys is just wonderful. I would recommend this product to anyone.

It's good, not great
I use this topical for electrolysis on my face and various places on my body as needed. It takes some of the high level sting out of my discomfort but electrolysis hurts me no matter what so I also take Advil and drink some wine. This is my second purchase of Topicaine but I might try something different next time to compare. I did try a piece of saran wrap on top of one area as I read in some other posts on this subject but I'm not sure it helped but will try it again and maybe put a little more topical on so it really sinks in. I cannot put the saran wrap on my face though as I have to drive about 25 min to my appointment and cannot have that on my face, although I may try and get a piece to stick to my upper lip as that hurts the most on my face. Hope this helps some of you.

AWESOME for laser treatments!
Oh my gosh, this stuff is pure MIRACLE in terms of working for laser treatments - LOVE IT! In more sensitive areas, it numbs to the point of barely being able to even feel the laser snap. This is how you use it for maximum and proper efficacy:** Rub normal layer/amount into the area to be treated until it's absorbed** Take additional ointment and place a thicker layer onto the area to be treated, don't rub in** Place Saran Wrap over the area to be treated until just before the appointment, then remove it for treatment and wipe off all product prior to treatmentNOTE: keep in mind that this IS lidocaine and it does have potency. Don't over apply it and/or do an excessive amount of layers, as it will have no additional benefit and could actually be dangerous to your health if too much lidocaine enters your system. Use it properly!!! People have died from lidocaine overdoses...no joke.

Product burns; comes without finger cots
I have a recurring anal fissure, which is a living hell. I’ve been using what many consider to be the leading brand of topical Lidocaine anorectal cream with mixed results. My colorectal surgeon suggested using a 5% Lidocaine gel, saying the gel might not dissipate as quickly and the numbing last longer. Topicaine 5 is one of the few gels I’ve been able to find. The child guard cap is difficult to remove, and the product burns more than the cream I’ve been using. The burning would be tolerable if Topicaine 5 worked better, but it doesn’t. I've also learned that using topical Lidocaine without finger cots can be hazardous to your health, even if you wash your hands thoroughly after each application. If you are a fissure sufferer, like me, I would stick with Lidocaine creams. It seems like this product is better suited for tattoos and bikini waxing than taming fissures.
