Released on "marbled white and stronger than blue" vinyl. Success for Pantera continued with 1994's Far Beyond Driven, notable for being one of the most abrasive and uncomprimising albums to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard chart. The album included "I'm Broken," "Becoming," "5 Minutes Alone," and the band's startlingly mellow version of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan."

Another great lp from Pantera
The sound seems tweaked right from the start. Almost like, “oh no it’s too loud, turn it down a notch”. It does sound good with no surface noise and i mean it’s f’n Pantera! Buy with confidence

One of the best ever made
Pantera rules! They shot to the top of the heavy metal heap back in their day. Their first serious metal album (Cowboys from Hell) was good and established them as THE band to watch. Then came Vulgar Display of Power, which was even better and heavier. That one is probably one of the heaviest, most intense albums ever made that is still tolerable to listen to all in one sitting. Then they made this one with the goal of making it even heavier, and they somehow pulled it off. I think part of it was due to them tweaking their sound just a bit- Dimebag's guitars had a harsher, almost industrial edge to them, and Rex's bass was brought up by adding some midrange. Part of it was the songwriting/song choices- there are slightly less intense songs scattered strategically throughout (like Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills), and that makes the heavier ones sound bigger and better. The album ends with a cover of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan," which is the perfect wind-down on an album like this. It sort of lets you come down from the high on a good note even though it's in such stark contrast to every other song on here. This album contains many great lessons for guitar players, such as how to use a Digitech Whammy pedal to make people think you are stepping on a cat's tail, and how to mix in some beautiful subtlety among severe skull-pounding riffage. RIP, Dimebag, a true guitar hero. Pantera's next 2 studio albums were good, but nowhere near this good, at least in my opinion. Reinventing the Steel was almost phoned in by comparison, but that one was made right before the band broke up and whatever problems they were having came out in the music. That's ok, we still have this one to remember when things were good!

Masha and the Bear is the best DVD I've ever purchased
We Americans are missing out. Masha and the Bear is the best DVD I've ever purchased, and it is practically unknown in the USA. Mail from Moscow is a little slow (though you get some colorful stamps!), so Amazon will tell you truthfully that it will take as much as three weeks to arrive. Use the time to buy an all-regions DVD player, as the DVD is recorded in PAL format. It worked with no problem on my all-regions player and also on my computer. Why is it great? First, this is a comedy cartoon series done in HD and 3D. The animation is state of the art, and would be a credit to any country. Second, you will fall in love with the characters. Masha is a very young girl living in rural Russia. Her best friend is her neighbor, a grandfather-like bear. He is retired from the circus, so he can juggle and do tricks, including magic. His house is rustic (think Hobbit, but even more cozy), with a wonderful garden outside with bee hives that are frequently knocked over in the mayhem. Masha is always inadvertently getting into trouble, but Bear always comes to her rescue (and sometimes vice versa!)You can choose between Russian and English. But really it doesn't matter much. The bear cannot talk so he pantomimes, making the story line easy to follow. There is a good reason to choose Russian. While the English dubbing is superb, the original voice of Masha is provided by the talented Alina Kukushkina. Search the name on YouTube to find videos of her singing some of Masha's catchy songs. Finally, the screenplay is fantastic. There is maximum imagination and fun. You get the first 18 episodes they made, so the price for what you get is reasonable. I heard my almost three year old granddaughter belly laughing while watching an episode, so I sat down beside her and we belly laughed in stereo. Priceless.

This is METAL!
I got this album when I was 12 years old in 1994 when it came out. It kicked my a$$ all over my bedroom, then down the hall, up the stairs, down the stairs, out into the yard...you get the point. The guitar work is blisteringly fast while intricate at the same time and just when it gets to maximum overdrive, boom a melodic metal song or guitar line. These guys were a bit ahead of their time as far as actual heavy metal. They lead the way for the genre in a time when Metallica was getting a more soft and not a lot of metal music was "mainstream". This album debuted on the Billboard chart at #1 and was by all accounts Pantera's masterpiece. You have anthems like "I'm Broken" on here and then a laid back mellow cover of "Planet Caravan" as well. It's good music and if you are an aspiring metal fan this would be a good breakthrough album. Also, Phil Anselmo is metal singer king. This specific release has a live bootleg disc of their Monsters of Rock show from 1994 which is a great 9 song set where they sound just as good live as they do on a disc. The main album has also been remastered and I have to say that it does sound better. The low end exists in a heavier form and overall album has more depth, dynamic range, and has been sweetened a bit. Heavy Metal Music to my ears. Talent, brute force, musicianship...METAL!
