Well, I'm a big guy ... 5'11'' & 240lbs.. My wife is (Whoa...I almost messed up there!!!). Anyways, I think this bed, once assembled correctly, will easily handle 500lbs. Hope this helps.

You can also build the entire bed out of plywood if you cut the wood yourself which cost a lot less. If you use the average plywood (not the more expensive ones ) your cost with be around $300-$350.
