Samsung Electronics Qi Wireless Charger & UV Sanitizer - Mobile Phone Sterilizing Box with Wireless Charging (Kills up to 99% of Germs and Bacteria on Phones and Accessories)

A very useful device for keeping the home environment clean and healthy. All sorts of small, hand-held tools and items (kitchen, dental, manicure, pedicure, indoor gardening, financial, first aid..) fit in this, including mobile phones (even if they can't all benefit from the automatic recharge function). Just give them a wipe or wash and dry first then perfect the procedure with UV. The UV destroys the DNA in germs, bacteria, viruses and so on which can be impossible to completely wash away, stops them breeding, thereby preventing their spread via the objects that you touch. It beeps after ten minutes, when it also switches off the "in use" green light. The USB plug can, of course, be combined with an adaptor, meaning there are a variety of energy sources including solar that can provide the power. A couple of small handles to make opening the box easier would help older people and those with less dexterity, but it is a beautiful piece of tech equipment that is a delight to operate. (Older people might prefer a microwave-size UV steriliser for a wider variety of potentially infection-spreading objects that threaten their health.) A lock to prevent inquisitive children opening it during operation is lacking which might be a problem in some homes, yet it is small enough to operate in a high-level cupboard or on an eye-level shelf; for those with boisterous young families but this does need to be carefully thought through first and there might be more practical machines to UV-zap all the things that young families routinely touch. This Sony UV box arrives beautifully packaged, with a reusable lightweight tray. Within its niche aimed at assisting design-conscious able adults with cleanliness-related care of small tech and tools, this is a stylish way to continue to apply the invaluable knowledge of hygiene that was such a helpful discipline to consistently get to grips with during lockdown.

It's quite big but it needs to fit your phone so that is why i put 3 stars on travelling. My phone does not have wireless charging capabilities so i cannot review the charging power. It is easy to use because of the one button operation.

The Samsung stamp gives me the confidence that this is doing what is says it’s doing ie: killing germs. Obviously I can’t confirm that! Although it’s worth nothing that I don’t think this device is actually made by Samsung. I think it is another company who either license the Samsung name or Samsung gets them to manufacture it for them. So take it with a pinch of salt. Charging speed on this is really quite slow but the set up and use is easy and it’s a Good device to have around. Can’t imagine how many people’s phones are covered in so much horrible stuff so it’s good to have this in the house just to use it every week at the least. Last thing To know is that this gives a loud beep after it’s finished sanitising which can’t be turned off so if you’re planning to have it next to your head and fall asleep, you might want to rethink where you put it. You could probably open it up and rip out the speaker if you’re feeling brave.

This attracted me because of Covid - germs seemed to become more prevalent (BTW not saying it gets rid of Covid!) and knowing how much we touch our phones all day long I thought it would be a good way of minimising other germs causing colds / sickness bugs etc) build up rather than using antibacterial wipes.Charger is good too so it’s a win win whilst I sleep.

The charging did not work

As a couple of other people have mentioned, this also works well as an EPROM eraser.The UV lights are on the side of the box, so the ICs need to be stood on their sides with the windows touching the left or right side of the container. The standard 10 minute time usually seems to be enough.

Overall the product looks great and does a good job sanitising a phone. But the reason for only 3 stars is that the contactless charger doesn’t really work. I put it on charge over night and when I closed the lid it was charging, but when I woke the next day the phone was hot and hadn’t charged fully. As it’s a good price (£12.99 when I purchased), I’ll keep as a sanitiser, but won’t be using it to charge my phone!
