There is not any way to determine what the sex of a plant will be by looking at the seed. It is not until the plant reaches sexual maturity (ie flowering) that one can tell. With 100 seeds, there will undoubtedly be many of both. Thank you.

What variety are these?

No named variety listed anywhere, just random genetics, these seeds are relatively cheap, they germinated well with less than perfect stratification technique, and they do appear to be seaberry plants so far (mine are 2" tall at the moment(-:) Im too cheap to spend the big bucks on a set (male & female) of cuttings, also I found this scientific article with the following passage: "Among the six subspecies of H. rhamnoides, ssp. sinensis and ssp. mongolica are mainly and widely distributed in Asia and Europe. Selection and breeding programs for these two subspecies have been running since the 1960s to improve their adaptability, yield, and quality. Some specific cultivars have been successfully selected and bred in many countries (e.g., China, Russia, and Germany) and distributed using plants from multiplication by cuttings. However, some morphological differences among mother plants and lines obtained by cuttings (Table 1) not only make a purchaser question if the plantlets obtained by cuttings are true-to-name cultivars but has also lead to commercial disputes (unauthorized commercialization of patented cultivars)." In light of this information, I would say go for it unless you are very limited in terms of growing space and or patience. The male genetics are not important in terms of immediate fruit quality and you definitely need both a male and female for fruit production, plants from seed will be a mix of both genders.  Another reason I chose to gamble with these random seeds is that I assume they are collected as a byproduct in a seaberry processing operation, which logically, would be seaberries that some farmer felt were worth cultivating and were deemed fit for processing & commerce. I'm no expert, I just had the same question myself prior to purchasing these seeds and this was my conclusion.
