Great for Brassy Highlights!
I recently got my hair highlighted. I knew it was going to be a gamble as my stylist was highlighting over DIY color that had red and gold undertones. When I left the salon, I wasn't super happy with how my hair looked because it was showing a lot of warmth - some pieces even looking orange. I tried to use the purple shampoo I had on hand at home and it really didn't do much to correct the issue.I ordered this product after reading promising reviews. I applied this shampoo on dry hair and left it on for 30 minutes. As you can see by the pictures, after one use there was a huge improvement in the brassiness of my hair. The shampoo is a bit drying but that is something I can deal with if it helps tone down the hair. I will continue to use this shampoo on a regular basis to keep the highlights looking nice and ashy.

2nd Purchase! This stuff really works for brown hair with blonde highlights!
I started getting gray coming in on top so to hide it I get my hairdresser to use a semi permanent brown dye and then he adds blonde foil highlights. But lately he never leaves the highlights in long enough when I am under the heat lamp so this results in a reddish orange brassy tone I cant stand! I had tried a couple of purple shampoos I had on hand while waiting for this to come in and with those it wasn't a very quick fix. This shampoo came in and I washed my hair last night and left it on for 20 minutes. Washed my hair again tonight and left it on for 25 minutes and it has already almost taken all the brassy orange tones away and is leaving me with the blonde highlights that should have been there to begin with! A couple more washes, maybe one more and I think I will be good to go for awhile. I have read some people on here say it was a shampoo that left their hair really dry but trust me, itreally doesn't compared to the others I have used! The others I have used dried my hair out so bad it felt like a hay stack! This one actually feels more moisturizing than any I have tried! And I did not buy the matching name brand blue conditioner like I did previously, cause I just could t afford it this time so I just used my regular conditioner and everything is good. The matching blue conditioner to this shampoo is a much much lighter blue so I don't think using that conditioner really makes that much of a difference as far as helping to also drastically eliminate those brassy orange tones like the shampoo does.. The main product is this deep dark blue shampoo that does the trick! And yes it will dye your hands if you don't wear gloves so either deal with it or wear gloves! LOL YOU WANT IT that dark blue so it stains everything it touches because that potent blue dye is what makes this shampoo so effective! I also put on a plastic disposable shower cap on my hair while i am letting it sit.The picture of me with most of my hair showing turned sideways is showing how brassy orange my hair was before I started. The other pics are showing how it is looking after just 2 washes.

More moisturizing than purple by same brand
I ordered Joico's blue shampoo to give it a try and compare it with their purple version. I was sent the conditioner in error but then sent the shampoo free without the need to return the conditioner. So this review is my experience using both the Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo and Conditioner.First, my hair. I've been letting my natural hair grow out for the past 10 months after almost 30 years of coloring it to hide silvers. When I began this process I had my stylist put in high and low lights and use toner to mask my grow out. I wish I'd not done that though, as the processing - particularly the lightening of my naturally dark brown hair - really fried it! I tried for several months to deep condition, but eventually had my hair cut shorter and after three sessions of toner stopped any processing of my hair. Much to my surprise and delight, my new hair growth is soft, shiny and curlier than I ever expected. Unfortunately, though, the remaining colored & lightened hair tends to get brassy, thus my use of purple and with this product, blue shampoos, and conditioners to add an ashy tone to eliminate the red-orange ones.As for Joico Color Balance Blue, I tried it because I was hoping it would be even better than their purple, which works OK for me. I also use Joico's Color Butter in Titanium to add more ash tones when I'm feeling like I want something a little darker than my blondish-brown ends.Joico Blue is very blue and that is good! The deep tones neutralize blorange and did work on my hair to take out the brass. Surprisingly to me, it did not work better than the purple version, or rather it worked different.y. The blue was less drying to my hair - both the shampoo and the conditioner, which I really liked. As for its ability to neutralize orange brassiness - it was OK but seemed less effective than the purple. Maybe it's the phase of my hair's grow out or the lightening that's been done on my naturally brown-silver hair that was colored dark brown before that, but the resulting color after using the Joico Color Balance Blue was a flat, dull, non-descript blonde brown. So I liked that the Joico Color Balance Blue Shampoo and conditioner worked well together to moisturize my hair and that it did neutralize brassiness. What I wish was better was that it left behind a dull, flat tone that looked somewhat unnatural - even more than my colored hair! The purple was better in terms of its coloring (toning) effects on my hair, but it was more drying. I'm not sure why this is and I'd have to say that the only way to know which one is for you is to give them a try. I will continue to use this product as it did not harm my hair, didn't smell bad and while not exactly as I'd hoped, it's pretty good.

Great Product
I did ALOT of research on products because at the salon we are pulling ALOT of home dark auburn box dye out. Now the Salon did awesome with what she could before damaging it.I just got this and it's my first time washing my hair since I got it dyed a week ago (I was terrified). It has alot of orange undertones. Now, this isn't going to work magic and change your total hair color, but DANG DOES IT REMOVE THE ORANGE! It's very potent and works so good!Highly, highly recommend. So glad I tried this product first. I don't even care to try anything else. So happy with the product, will continue to use. Plus it looks shinier than usual too.

It turned my hair brassy!
I was so disappointed in this product! I have light brown hair with blonde pieces throughout (colored). Unfortunately after I used this I noticed that my hair looked brassy as if all the toner had been stripped away. My blonde turned yellow and my light brown hair had an orange, brassy tint! I couldn’t believe it based on the color of the shampoo, the reviews, the brand! I don’t know if I got a bad bottle or what.
