WORKS WITH ROMEX FOR 120 / 240V. HAVE NOT DONE ANY DC TESTING.
For this money you can't go wrong. It saved me many hours when it arrived versing shorting out a wire and playing "find 0 resistance with a multitestor.I'm sure it's no gonna last a lifetime but that's the world of tools we live in now. 2 things:1) think of volume as 'gain' on an amp. it sprays a fairly distant signal so playing with volume can narrow it down to where it is.2) I searched long and hard to see which toners can handle home sized 120v wiring vs low voltage, tiny gauge cat (5,6,7) and couldn't fine an answer. Well I have it. I have gotten a strong signal nearly 50 feet away from the tone generator.Good luck

Good value for a useful tool.
Very sensitive probe.You can easily determine which wire is detected in a multi-cable connection.A good price also.

Cheap
Seller sent what appeared to me to be a used unit which I returned. A new one was received three days later for which I was grateful. It's a fairly cheap unit and I suspect it fail within a year or two.

Pure(!!) garbage
As cheap - garbage- not working - item one would ever buy…Waste of my time / I needed it and I just got it and returned it and got nothing elsePure garbage

It worked well
It worked. I needed to find breaks in a shallowly buried boundary wire. This helped me find 2 breaks in the wire fairly quickly. I did have to get pretty close to the wire for it to pick up a tone (within 10inches). The ground was wet, which may have been a factor. The plus is having to get close meant I found a precise location. If you can't get close to the wire you are searching for it could be a problem. I'm glad I had this. It probably saved me hours of using other methods to find the wire breaks.Things to watch out for when using this: 1. The circuitry is exposed when changing batteries. Be careful about static discharge when handling it. If you were to touch the board you could ruin it. 2. The battery covers have tiny screws that will fall out while changing batteries. I was outside working. I lost a screw the first time I used it.

Wire tracer good for light use on runs <30ft
It works for short runs of wire. 20ft to 30ft. I was using it to trace a wire from my ring doorbell up into the attic. When I got into the attic, the signal was weak and with static. But I did locate the wire. after 25 to 30 ft the signal died off to zero. YMMV. It's economical and I only needed it once. It basically works. It got the job done. Does anyone want to buy it from me? I'll throw in the batteries for free.
