Thought-provoking and informative
This is an excellent book on cloud strategy, written by one of the world's leading experts on the subject.A meaningful strategy is unique to you, and Gregor gives you decision models that you can actually use to create a winning strategy of your own. If you're looking for answers, he provides them, but more importantly he reveals the thinking behind the answers - why they work vs. the alternatives, and backs them up with examples from his real-world experience, and from others he's mentored and advised. As Gregor says, every decision implies a trade-off, and being aware of these tough decisions ahead of time allows you to plan in such a way to know what's coming and maximize your chances of success. The information in this book is accurate and up-to-date, which is quite a feat given how quickly the industry is changing. Gregor has done a great job cutting through the hype, presenting complex ideas in a way that even non-technical readers can easily understand, without compromising on diving deep on the important details, while also keeping it fun and engaging.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in cloud strategy, whether you're new to cloud or an experienced cloud practitioner.

Finally A Book about the Cloud Written in English
This book is well-written and thought-provoking. It reads like a conversation, rather than a textbook. If you are looking to transform your business into the future, keep up with technology trends and really answer the question: “so, why are we going to the cloud again?” This book is for you.

3.5/5
The book may come across as somewhat wordy, but has some useful concepts and wisdom shared. Most useful to new/intermediate cloud practitioners.

Cloud Strategy is an Excellent Addition to my Bookshelf
Definitely a book worth reading. Whether you're just considering moving to the cloud or are already well into cloud implementations, this book is a great resource. This book covers lots of ground from thinking about how "the cloud" is different (see "Cloud Thinks in the First Derivative") to practical advice about operating on cloud infrastructure (see "Automation Isn't about Efficiency").Writing in a very accessible, conversational style, Hohpe packs lots of well-earned wisdom and experience into the book without being preachy. There are also lots of references and links to other authors and articles that help expand on the topics in the book. Finally, I like that many chapters end with a "Do's and Don'ts" section that provides actionable advice and takeaways. No matter your level in your organization, you'll find this book helpful and informative.

Very insightful, reflecting depth and experience
This is a very insightful book. It reflects a diversity of depth and experience that is hard to match. Hohpe made huge contributions to the architecture community through his messaging patterns book. Functioning as a C-level advisor for companies and their cloud migrations helps him to achieve an understanding of high-level concerns as well. I read the book slowly, a chapter or two a day. It's a very easy read but it gives you a lot to think about that would not likely have occurred to you unless you've been through several cloud transitions. In practice, only those in consultative positions (such as Hohpe) can say that. Read it slowly. It's an easy read but there is a lot here.

Minor League Book. Grade: C
Straight to the point: this book gets at the very best a C. I picked up the book based on reviews and based on the contents whereby I thought the author was humorous and it was a fun read. Indeed the book leans heavily on the anecdotal side and humor side than real IT. If you have a background in IT, you would never pick up this book; there are tons and tons of incredible articles on Cloud Migration and Cloud Strategies for free on the web, published by accomplished techies. Is it possible that an accomplished Gregor Hohpe author above can write a lukewarm book? Yes, Yes it is possible. This book truly feels like the author wrote a bunch of experiences on napkins while flying in an airplane between sipping martinis. There are a few extremely high level concepts that are worth being aware, these are at the 10,000 ft level. And Yes it is possible that some companies miss out on these very basic concepts. For example: "getting new features into production quickly is a core competency" ... pretty basic and straightforward to most in IT or the business side of an organization ... Anyways, the book is 300 pages, you can dedicate reading it, where there are absolutely no concrete examples to support the statements or you can search the web. BTW if the author would have had some insight from academia, he would have realized that nothing ever hits a home run without specific examples that show a person the logic. It's like going thru college, but never doing any of the homework assignments: you can't learn .... Hope this helps...
