Panforte is a flat, dense cake created in Siena, Italy during the medieval era. Flavored with dried fruits, nuts, honey, citrus zests and a variety of spices, these cakes have a rich, complex flavor that satisfies with only a tiny slice. Chocolate panforte (aka torta al cioccolato) has the rich, luxurious flavor of candied cherries, chocolate, nuts, cinnamon and nutmeg, blended with hints of citrus. The outside is coated with a chocolate glaze. Marabissi is a third generation, family-run pastry business that is considered the most prestigious producer of Panforte di Siena in Italy. Note: Inside the outer packaging, this panforte is wrapped in a paper ring around the sides that should be removed. The bottom of the cake is covered with wafer paper to keep it from sticking. This does not need to be pulled off of the cake prior to consumption…it is edible!

Fresh and subtle spice flavors
Arrived quickly. Perhaps I've never had a panforte as fresh as this was; or maybe it's just better. This had subtle spice flavors which my previous experience with panforte didn't provide. Very good.

Wonderful panforte
This is the best panforte in the US. This is dense, moist, and full of yummy fruit. Highly recommended..

The best I can get in the U.S. now
I discovered this in Siena, and there are many different producers there. In the US I formerly could buy a real favorite, made in a small town near Siena, but this seems to be all that is available here that is authentic. Wonderful holiday treat.

Originally bought this brand on the plaza in Sienna! Definitely a new Christmas tradition! A dense dried fruit & honey concoction. Slice very thinly.

disappointing
the quality was not what I came to expect from prior years. The external finishing (cardboard band and rice paper covers) was torn and wrinkled. The recipe must have been changed somewhat as it was sweeter and not as full of dried fruits. I will not buy this brand again.

Wow
Wow. This is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life (the fig and walnut version), but I like them all in different ways.Don't stress about removing the paper on the underside. It's edible rice paper.Love these, and I'd be proud to gift them and introduce others to their pleasures.
