Designed for the task, not to look girly.
You have to remember that actual cutting action feels very slightly different. I have used a metal version of this tool and I spent more time worrying about my fingers being cut. This tool gives the advantage that you can work quickly being sure that neither you or the fabric gets cut. I’m glad I took the plunge and bought one. Yes the replacement blades seem expensive but the work you will get through doing so is phenomenal

Non locking blade
Good product but needs to be held in place to use.

Excellent product
This is a review changed from 1 star to 5. I learnt how to use it - a little trial and error worked wonders, and now it's my go-to tool for ripping seams and clipping ends from time to time. I find it far superior to the metal fork type that I've used for years.

Very handy tool.
No more cut fingers thanks to this little thing. Nice that it comes with a replacement blade as well. Mine now hangs on a ribbon around my neck when sewing. Highly recommended.

Completely Useless - returning
Utterly useless product clearly designed by someone who does not sew. With 50 years sewing experience but always keen to try something new I thought I would try this... big mistake!1.The diagram is misleading, you need to hold the blade out to use.2. Nothing like sharp enough.3. Blade is too big.4. Does not cut button holes - it just chews the fabric.5. Ridiculously expensive (this was a birthday gift to myself)Stick to the 60p cheap ones and replace often, to be honest something from a Christmas cracker would work better.

Rather thick blade
I decided to buy this to aid in ripping seams for my patchwork. However, the blade is quite thick so I’ve reverted to my normal seam ripper. Perhaps ok for dressmaking, but it’s not for me and was quite expensive for what it is.

So Easy to use.
Nice to hold and cuts through thread like butter. Doesn't catch on the material so no holes when unsewing. Going to buy them for my fellow sewists. Love it!

Good, but could be improved
Make sure you know which version you're buying! I bought the locking one, but saw a lot of reviews saying it didn't work when they bought the non locking version. I like it though, it's easier to hold over typical styles and it cuts threads really easily. However, they missed the opportunity to add storage for one spare blade in the handle. The pack came with 2 blades and zero storage for the second one. It also can be a little unstable at times, which could be fixed by just making the end of the blade that goes in the handle longer.

A safer seam ripper that's versatile and a joy to use
I got one of these seam rippers for Christmas, and it's pretty awesome. Retractable so you don't accidentally stab yourself. Cuts threads but doesn't cut skin, so it's safer. The description says it comes with a blunt blade and a pointed blade is available separately, but my unit came with one of each! The pointed blade lets you really dig into tight places and do precise seam ripping, the blunted one is good to more quickly rip long lengths of stitching without tearing into fabric. I ended up buying a second unit so I could have one of each type of blade handy. I had a lot of seam ripping to do last night and today, and this unit has really made the process a lot easier. I find I can hold the Slice a number of different ways, depending on how I need to access the seams I'm ripping, so it's very versatile.

Love this tool! So easy to use and is safe around the kids!
This tool was the perfect replacement for my old seam ripper! With the kids around, I didn't want anything sharp in the house that they could get their hands on. I also love that this one is auto-retractable, and so I don't have to worry about the blade being left out by mistake. You can also order the Manual if you prefer - this is the orange handle. It is great for arts and crafts with the kids too - they can use it without me worrying they'll hurt themselves! Definitely recommend to all you moms!
