Good device
I got a new computer with Windows 7. Naturally, there are no RS232 ports, just USB and I have a GPS I needed to hook up. After looking around for a Windows 7 compatible DBI to USB converter and looking at various cards, I selected this one. Installation was nothing and Windows 7 already had the driver in its system (didn't need to use the driver CD). After an initial failure, I changed the com port from 2 to 1 and bingo, it works beautiful. The only gripe is the price for an "obsolete" port.

Gave me no trouble installing and has worked nicely
Really glad to see this line of products. We have a very old computer hooked to our TV, and this allows us let it work with our newer machines when needed (all MS OS). We tend to watch a batch of movies, then hook up a laptop and swap for newer ones. Occasionally pop in a thumb drive to re-watch an older one. That kind of thing. We had an old serial drive I wanted to plug in just to give us more space. I hate having old parts sitting around that were perfectly fine. It’s good to be able to use them again. It felt nicely built, sturdy, solid plug-in, no wibbly wobbly. Seats nicely and has not caused us any trouble at all.I’m good about updating if anything pops up. Any questions, feel free to comment or email and I’ll try to help.

Easy to install, works great
For the most part, I'm really happy with startech products. I need a serial port on a desktop and decided to try this. It's working great with no isseus. I'm using it with a serial printer and have had no issues with it dropping out.It was really simple to install. It takes up one or two half height slots (if you only need one serial port, you don't need to use up a second slot). If you have a full height slot, both serial ports use only one slot. There is a molex power connector on the board, but I didn't use it. There's a setting to send 5V, 12V, or no voltage over pin 9. By default it's set to no voltage. It doesn't seem like you need to use the molex power adapter if you're not sending power over pin 9. The manual makes it seem like it's optional even if you do send power over pin 9. There are pins on the board for a parallel port but the ribbon cable and parallel port bracket is not included. After installing, I just ran the latest driver from the website. I set the port settings and away I went. Since I installed it and set it up, I've had zero issues.

Problems with Windows 7 x64
I bought this card to use with a new computer running Windows 7, 64-bit. I discovered that there was a problem with my RS-232 software losing the connection to the serial port after a while. After re-installing the drivers, everything was OK for a while, and then the connection would be lost again. This happened with two different software packages, so I think the software is ok.In all fairness - StarTech's tech support was quite responsive, but they reached a conclusion that the problem is at my end - it may be their driver or Windows 7 x64. They say they have no issues with the driver in their lab, so, perhaps it is a Windows issue. The product quality is good, and they shipped promptly; but, if anyone plans to use this with Win 7 x64, be careful to test everything for proper operation before Amazon's return period expires.
