A bit deceptive but seems to work ok.
Let's make one thing clear: the solar panel on this is NOT to charge the battery. The battery is a disposable CR2450 Lithium(not Lithium Ion), and a very low quality one at that. I haven't fully disassembled the thing yet but I believe the battery is used to power the sensors and lens when there's low light(i.e. when you aren't facing a super-bright arc) and the solar panel takes advantage of the fact that you're getting blasted with intense light so that little panel can produce the electricity the power the mask while you're actually welding. I'm actually fine with this as I didn't want to trust a rechargeable coin-cell from China to keep me from going blind and also not to randomly start on fire as Lithium Ion batteries are known to do. I'll be doing some modifications to add a battery holder and use rechargeable AA or AAA batteries(need 2 of them to provide the 3V the CR2450 outputs) to provide reliable power. Maybe even get a cheap LED meter board so I can check when the batteries starting getting low. I don't trust the circuitry in the mask to alert me of low battery well before they're dead so I can ensure that I don't end up with the screen suddenly going clear and getting arc flash. I may also make it so that I'm always running from battery power just so there's no chance of getting flashed when the circuit is switching to solar or something. That shouldn't happen but I want to KNOW it won't happen. These are the only eyes I've got and I want to be sure they last a lot longer yet.

Wow! An amazing welding hood for the price!
Skip to third paragraph if you want the nitty-gritty. I knew that the welding hood/helmet I had been using for the past 14 years wasn't great - it was the popular HF blue flame deal that a lot of people buy. I usually only use my welder once a year or so when a random project pops up, so I made due. This past week, however, I decided to tackle a bunch of welding projects that I had put aside due to just not wanting to use my subpar hood, but these projects weren't going to finish themselves! After firing up my MIG welder and putting on my HF special, it took me about a solid minute to realize that my hood was malfunctioning and wasn't auto-darkening all the way through a weld pass. The next morning I woke up to the dreaded "sand in your eyes" feeling and missed a day of work because of it. It was then that I decided I should probably look to see what the latest hoods were all about. So I hopped on Amazon.True Color? Panoramic? What?! When did these advancements come along? It was a daunting task to wade through all of the options available on here, but in the end I settled on this as-of-yet-unreviewed gem due to the generally positive reviews of this brand and the fact that it had all the bells and whistles - True Color, panoramic view (with all three panels having auto-darken), and an LED light, all for a c-note. I was willing to take a risk since I could always return it if it didn't perform.Let me say that I'm glad I chose this hood and wanted to assure others that this is a great buy! Super easy to use and after lots of use over the past few days, I can tell you that I can now actually see what I'm welding on without fear of burning my eyes.

Sadly just 3 stars, ...could be better
I really wanted to give this a higher rating, but negative features I've found on it prevents that.....first.....the lower 'chin' part is too 'short'. As you nod to lower the helmet to start welding. the short chin does not rest low and far enough on your chest that your nose and mouth actually touches the inside surface of the screen. I had to rivet plastic extensions on the 'chin' to extend it....second...I find the headgear plastic perhaps too thin or too soft. It was 'crumpled' from packaging and it seems to have a permanent distorted bend now. I hope the plastic is quality enough not to break....third...as I opened the packaging box from delivery, I found the LED light flashing on ! I feel the on/off switch does not have secure, positive clicks on it; which may have cause the led lights to turn on inside the package. Manually swathing it on and off does not give me a secure positive feeling....fourth...The front protective clear plastic shield is too 'bulging out'. It adds too much bulk on the helmet and I feel that the bulging protrusion makes it susceptible to easier and more scratches. But It does protect the flat main lens. Extra protective lenses were provided...fifth... the controls are outside, great !., but the led light switch and test button are still inside above the lens. still an inconvenience to get to.As far as welding arc protection and visibility is concerned, the lenses are wide, bright and clear. I find however the additional right and left side lenses are useless and perhaps just added expense. The main lens provides enough lateral visibility the side lenses are not necessary.

This is nice with the light, and I can see really well with it. Lots of settings and adjustments.
