TransformersGenerations Combiner Wars Devastator Figure Set (Amazon Exclusive)

This Figure is AWESOME. Hasbro reached out with this design to do a lot of things and they hit a lot of buttons well. For diehard Transformers collectors, you may find some of the target market sacrifices annoying, so read through carefully, but for a play oriented display, the more than casual fan or something for a truck-minded kid, you'll love this.The Trucks:Each of the 6 Constructicons turn into big, bulky trucks. Compared to some older Generations Transformers, the plasitc feels lighter and more rubbery, but the vehicle's size and material are just begging to go out in the dirt and be played with, hosed off, and transformed. I do wish that Hook's crane could turn, or slide, or that Mixmaster's cement drum could turn, but the wheels all roll soundly. And I can forgive Long Haul's dump bed being shaped the way it is as needed for transformation, I suppose.The RobotsLike the vehicles, these are BIG Bots. Some have said their size almost makes them feel like oversized Knock Offs, and I can understand that too a point. They are lighter than expected for their size, due in part because of the overall weight of Devvy. But the size of the Constructicons is also endearing, and if they were smaller we'd feel somehow shorted. its a good size for young and old hands alike. Transformations are very loyal to G1 for the most part, but still updated enough to feel new and not braindead simple, either. I wish they had more accurate guns, and not just Devy's accesories with gunbarrels. Takara is covering that in their own line, but at Takara prices+import. The Headsculpts are definately top notch though, right from the 86 cartoon movie.DevastatorTwo words. BIG. STABLE. You'd think for a guy standing on someone doing a hanstand, he'd have all the balance of a drunk pegglegged pirate in a hurricane. But on two feet, he's extremely balanced. The figure feels hefty, but just the right amount without being front or back heavy. And at 18" tall, he dwarfs most of his enemies. While smaller than the recent Metroplex, he's twice Leader Megatron's size and far larger than the other Combiners. The way Scrapper and Mixmaster unfold and latch into Long Haul to form the legs is ingenius and almost foolproof. This figure can take a lot of play without falling apart. Hook and LongHaul connect together in three places and then both connect to the arm bots Scavenger and Bonecrusher, Hook through the giant's shoulders and Long Haul by tabbing into the treads that form the ribcage/armpit area. And THEN you can tab on the shield, which connects to Long Haul with clips, a peg into Hook on the left side (but oddly, not the right?) and then with slotted tabs onto both treads, as much reinforcing the existing joints as it is holding itself on, while simoultaneously not making the figure hard to take a part. On mine, the wrist joint is tighter than the joint the han swivels into itself on, which has resulted in me popping the hand off the cuff several times. Nothing broken, it's a simple knob in a divot and designed to give, but it is annoying. I also find myself missing the 5mm standard pegholes. He has 5mm handles in his hands for the smaller bots to hold them as weapon pods, but no easy-to-use peg hole. He actually grips his blaster. It makes the hands look good, but in G1, Devy had a Scorpion guy who turned into a gun and this Devy can't weild a recent Scorion figure easily. Minor gripe though in the grand scheme of things. And that headsculpt? amazing.The bottom line is this: If you want a Museum Quality, Masterpiece Devastator, you might find this lacking. But this figure is fun to fiddle with, looks good with Generations toys, as well as the Robots in Disguise 2015 figures, has great posability, and definately stands out. You won't go wrong getting this for you, or your child, or both.

I just received Devastator today. As usual Amazon delivered on time, thank you. This is the first, and best of all the combiners. What makes Devastator unique is that it take six robots to form Devastator. Whereas all the combiners that followed had five robots--one large robot as the head and torso, with four smaller robots as arms and legs--Bruticus, Menasor, Defensor, and Superion. I was amazed at the actual size of each individual Constructicon robot. As a person who grew up watching the original G1 series, I compared the new Constructicons to their predecessors. The craftsmanship and engineering of these new robots are amazing, and far exceeded the original design except for one area--Mix Master (Devastator's left leg). Somehow the designer made the rear of the cement mixing truck the actual foot, and the cab of the truck the component that ties into the knee cap. Devastator In the original toy and cartoon version has it reversed, the cab is the foot.Combining Devastator took approximately 20 minutes. The details and size of the figure is immense. There are two versions of this figure--obviously this one, and another that is sold at Hasbro's website (Possibly exclusive to their own website), very similar to the Comic-con version. There are four key differences that I have noticed between the two units: Box design, price, head sculpt, and paint. For the $149.99 Amazon price, you get a box design with Devastator attacking other smaller robots. A head sculpt with a visor for his eyes (I prefer this version as it is the one I remembered from Transformers the Movie (1986), and the body paint is flat in color resembling the cartoon. The $179.99 version has Devastator's head as the graphics on the box. The head sculpt has two eyes instead of the visor, and their is more details defined by the paint scheme with the purple having a metallic finish. Either head version is correct since there have been episodes with both head sculpts. I am just partial to the visor version. It's been a long wait but well worth it. What's not to like--its big, green, and his name is Devastator.

This guy is big! We’ve had Volcanicus around the house for a while but Devastator looks twice as big. The individual Transformers that make up Devastator are big by themselves. I took pictures of the smaller Constructicons next to some Leader Class Transformers (Astrotrain and Ultra Magnus) and they are about the same size.It’s easy enough for my 6 year old kid to transform. I’d say it’s less difficult than the typical 8+ Transformers. However, connecting the Constructicons to make Devastator is a bit more tricky, I think, than putting Volcanicus together. Devastator’s legs connect at multiple points, whereas Volcanicus connects at one point. The connection points in Devastators legs aren’t obvious, because everything is green, whereas with Volcanicus, the connection points are more obvious because they’re black/grey (against the silver body).Some joints are extremely tight, but that’s not uncommon. I usually do some physical therapy on the Transformers first, to loosen them up before my kid starts playing with them. The quality of the plastic is acceptable.I’m happy that the set was available. $150 is a lot, but I spent much more buying each Dinobot individually to make Volcanicus. My kid has been asking for Devastator for a year after he saw a transformation video online. He seriously went crazy when he got Devastator for his birthday.If you can afford it, I would recommend this, because combiners, and triple changers (vehicle, robot, arm/leg/chest mode) aren’t very common.
