Want to be a Grillmaster? Buy This.
It's expensive. It got even more expensive when I realized how much more I'd have to shave after my beard got even more manly; I've decided to simply embrace it and accept my Viking side. I do spend a lot more time answering questions about my incredible ability to put 4 filets on the grill at once and have them all cooked to different levels of doneness yet still come off at exactly the same time. My wife can't keep her hands off me these days, though she's having to run interferences with the neighborhood ladies; who knew?I've always been good with the grill and cooking over an open flame but it does require your attention and food isn't getting any cheaper. When you grill, you want it absolutely perfect, and these things deliver These things are incredibly accurate, provide accurate countdown-to-done grill times, and also tell you where the hotter/cooler spots are on your grill so you can get your cook times spot-on for all-at-once serving. There's even a resting time monitor to make sure they don't lose any moisture by cutting them too early. The alerts let you charm your guests while your meat is on the grill doing its thing. If you want to up your game, this is how it's done. Yeah, they're expensive, but it's a precision tool and is very, very high quality. The downside? The setup/update is a bit clumsy (most things are) and the manual use mode is a little clunky but it does let you use them without a smartphone if you must. I imagine they'll continue to improve this as time trundles along. In the mean time, you do the setup once and you're done, then it's off to perfectly grilled foods.

She married me for my cooking
I BBQ on a Trager grill and the Bluetooth only version of the MEATER as well as two other Bluetooth only probes I tried have a limited range of about 6-feet due to the thick lining of the Trager grill. This prevents me from monitoring my cooking when I am in my house. I also tried another WIFI thermometer which supports 8-probes but found the software to be so flakey that it would often hang. The Meater Block is by far the best cooking system I have ever used for the following reason.Packaging – This device is very well packaged and the wooden block is beautiful. I liked that they integrated a USB charging port as well as batteries but due to corrosion I would like to see them move away from batteries and just have a rechargeable one.Software Setup – This is so simple and only took a few minutes including account creation. Pairing to the block on my Samsung phone was effortless and connecting the block to my WIFI was also super easy.Software – The Phone interface on this is hands down the best I have ever seen. You simply hit the power button on the block and tell it to connect to WIFI which it does in a few seconds. I like that the LED on the block shows you the Bluetooth connectivity of each probe to the block and when you fire up the software on your phone, it quickly connects to the block over WIFI. My favorite part of the Software is that when you say cook, it gives you 6-options (Beef, Pork, Poultry, Lamb, Fish, or other and then many sub categories and then lets you determine how you want the item to cook (Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, Medium Well, or Well Done and it recommends temp based on safety guidelines. One of the things that sets this apart is because it measures both internal food temp and ambient external temp, it is able to calculate how long it will take for your food to cook. This is especially handy of you are cooking multiple things like a big roast and some chicken at the same timeHardware – The block looks great and is easy to clean. The probes and also stylish and very easy to clean. If someone asks, I do not know if these probes can be used in water like sous-vide or other cooking devices. Conclusion – Later this year I will probably update my Trager to the latest model that has WIFI support but I will continue to use these probes as they are amazing. I have never once lost connectivity to the block so that says something about the stability of the device. Aside from a rechargeable battery, my only other feature request is that the Estimated cook time calculation could be speed up as sometimes it takes up to 7-minutes for this to register but overall an amazing product.

Temps unreliable & back end support fails
The media could not be loaded. I wanted to love this, I really did - unfortunately the inaccuracy of the probes & customer support is a failure making what could have been great now an expensive countertop decoration. The issue: constant connection issues (despite being <2 feet away) and temperature readings nearly 100°F off from each other. At one point I used an oven probe, an oven temp gauge, an instant read thermometer, another brand probe & a laser temp gun all to try to validate proper reading and found all MEATER probes varied - some significantly. The context: My wife bought this for me as a gift so by the time I opened it and found it to be faulty, the one month Amazon replacement window had closed. With WILDLY different temperatures readings and connection issues, Amazon pointed me towards Meater support. While the team was professional and courteous, I was tread more like an employed tech than a customer. Instead of offering to replace the unit, I spent the next month sending hi resolution photos to look for hairline cracks, systematically wiggling every part, resetting the unit over and over and over… all to FINALLY be told that the other probes “seemed” ok and that they would only replace one probe. One. Not the unit, not “I’m sorry, we appreciate your business and will make it right”, just “only send us one probe and we’ll replace it”. I guess I’m supposed to forget connection issues on ALL 4 PROBES and the fact that all temps varied. The nuttiest bit is they offered to replace the probe with the connection issue, NOT the one that reads 100° off.Result: I’m out nearly $400 for a unit I can’t trust to give accurate readings, I’m tired of going back and forth with a company that wants me to troubleshoot over and over and over again and on the off chance I do use the probes now, I always end up using an instant read thermometer to double check it. Such a shame as the look and feel of the unit is very nice. The app interface is one of the best ones out there & *if it worked* would likely be hands down the best on the market. That said, because of my experience and continued issues I will actively tell friends and family to AVOID MEATER PRODUCTS.Pics: the attached pictures show the variance on a single cook with 3 probes (this cook probe 4 decided to not connect) in the same piece of meat each within two inches of each other.Business hot tip: Products fail. It happens and isn’t a big deal **IF** you remedy it. Making a customer who just paid $350+ for a temp sensor do the legwork for your own employees and then leave them with a half working unit is just ridiculous and a hot path towards a failing business.Final thought: Look elsewhere Amazon shopper - you don’t want this.
