Q: Does the metal on the outside get too hot to touch?

No. The metal outside do not get the full temperature. You can touch worriless.

Q: It makes hot water and drinks taste awful I’ve given it a good wash. Does it wear off. It’s not the water as no problem with water in kettle.

I've never had any problem with bad taste but only ever used it for hot water and then added any coffee or other flavouring in my cup. If you've had this problem from the outset maybe it's faulty?

I think it's a twelve months guarantee. I'm not sure. Sorry I haven't got a definite answer.
