As a Christian believer and ordained Protestant minister, this is my first consideration of "religious studies" as either an intellectual project or as something which should matter significantly to me. Orsi is clearly recognized within the filed as an expert, and the pieces collected here are all fine choices and well-written. A near-universal theme is how and whether "religious studies" can separate itself from liberal Protestant theology-- apparently some consider religious studies as almost a conspiracy by Protestant theologians to gain respectability within the university. I found myself more than once responding "who cares about any of this in the real world"? At the same time I am attracted to the other works of Orsi. A very worthwhile book.
