Reel deal
This 2nd one replaces (quickly shipped - thanks) the first one (damaged drag wheel, un attached end ring and one lower ferrule) and so the rod is ok, light action tip but overall the lengthened rod seems to bend well; bail on reel is "sticky" - doesn't flip back easily so requires "a running start" of 1 full rotation to snap it into place or just flip it back over by hand after casting the line. Smooth and small switch takes it from one rotation into bidirectional rotation. Have used the slightly shorter version and taken 8 and 10 inch lake trout with very small spinners and streamers. Easy to backpack. Due to small reel diameter need to use softer line.

Store bought homemade pen reel.
Most of the stuff I buy that comes from china is very poor quality or just entirely incorrect. Same with this pen reel/rod.The reel keep falling off the stock. I tried to force it in to the fixing foot. The foot got a small tear and the real kept falling off. The fixing foots would spin around and the reel go flying. The foot is too thick and wide for the fixers. I ground down the thickness of the foots at the tips and on top. I then applied blue locktight to the end of the rod tube. That seems to solve that problem. Next I'll put a small amount of silicone tape on the threads. Another problem was after all that the bail would not close when I trying to wind the reel it would lock and I had flip it shut with my little finger. After screwing with it for an hour it finally would shut but not very smooth. Next comes the BIG test, a real fish trial. If everything works ? I will chrome the filed edges and seal the small spot. Maybe the rod will not break and the reel does not disassemble it's self. A little too money for me to do a complete remake!

Not a bad rod to have tucked away just in case!
The media could not be loaded. I had to see if it would hold up to the hype or not. I have to say, after testing it on a bike ride with some Largemouth... I am impressed. I had a couple of bass try to run into logs, with a little finesse I was able to move them out and land them. One thing I did do before using it was remove the line that came on it, and I replaced it with some 6 lb test that I trusted.

Some issues however not too bad
The media could not be loaded. Somethings you need to note before you buy this product.PROS: pole looks like the picture. The reel is not horrible you can use it. It extends to a good length.CONS: every eye on the pole was loose or coming off but if you are like me i keep a bottle of super glue in the house. I would highly advise you even if your eyes when you get the pole seem strong put a dab of super glue or whatever you have on them just to make your pole last.In conclusion buy with your expectations low but not too low it will work just needs a lil TLC.I will attach some pictures for yall.

Good, functional pole for the money
Having experience with collapsible poles, I know not to pull each segment out TOO tight, as it makes it very hard to retract. The reviewer who mentioned adding oil sparingly to each joint is correct. That's a good "tip". When attaching the reel to the pole, gingerly wiggle it, side to side, to allow for the keeper rings to firmly seat, inching the nut tighter and tighter as the keeper rings "mold" to the shape of the reel mount. Chinese tolerances are not very good so, do not force the nut. The nut and threads ARE sufficient to hold the reel tight to the pole for use. As mentioned in other reviews, the line will need to be replaced. It is monofilament and due to the extended time on the reel, has developed a "memory" and does not function. The reel is of a quality comparable to a Shakespeare Combo, found at any big box store. The balance of the pole, with the reel attached,, is very good.

Get what you pay for...?
I went for this rod because the US manufacturer I've been eyeing has a piss-poor website that's impossible to understand. I'm still trying to figure out whether or not I made the right decision buying this. For starters, the reel is not the best quality - in fact, you're better off getting a cheap ice fishing spinning rod to go with this instead. The internal drag washer is already rusted, the reel backtracks even when locked, and a handful of other nitpicks. The line is incredibly thick, especially considering you'd be going for relatively smaller fish with this rod. I re-spooled it immediately with some cheap 4x tippet I had lying around. As for the rod - it's one of the cheapest-feeling rods I've ever held. The lock washers that keep the reel on the grip come loose constantly, and the notches that keep the reel in place are made of aluminum so flimsy that I warped it trying to keep the reel in place. If you don't position the lock washers just right while collapsing the rod, the cap might not properly fit. The blanks feel cheaply made, too. Some blanks feel too snug and some are so loose I had to put painter's tape around the base so it'd stay in place.Like, I'm fairly certain I'll be able to catch some fish with the rod/reel combo - I'm skilled enough of an angler to figure it out - but even $25 ice fishing rods with spinning combos are higher quality than this thing. If you're in it for the novelty, sure, go ahead. But if that US rod company ever gets its act together and redoes their entire website - I'll never buy this rod ever again.

Definitely recommend
We went on a last minute trip to St Croix US Virgin Islands. my son and I like to fish and since we rented a house right on the beach, I wanted to bring 2 fishing poles. I came across these collapsible fishing rods and figured Id give them a try. I bought two of the 1.4m length. very compact. easily fit in our luggage. Honestly, I was very surprised at how far I could cast with these little rods. Using a heddon super spook jr lure, I caught a barracuda from the shore as you can see in the picture. I was worried the rod would snap as I was reeling in the barracuda but to my surprise, it didnt break. It was worth every penny in my opinion. as a side note, a few times the line bunched up around the reel when casting. possibly user error. I did bring extra line just in case something like this happened.
