Outstanding and Comprehensive
I probably have 15 embroidery guides, and though I was wary of this one at first (due to the lack of photographs), it has turned out to be the best of them all. It does not have pictures of stitches; instead it has drawings and most importantly, the stitches are shown from both the front of the fabric and the back. This is an incredibly useful feature, especially for the beginner or intermediate trying to work the stitches correctly and from the right direction and angle. The organization is clear and logical. Stitches are grouped into families and variations are labeled explicitly. Stitch instructions, remarks, and notes are uniformly helpful and well-written.I have the Kindle edition and use it constantly. The only negative that I can think of is that the index at the back has no hyperlinks or page/location references.Recommended enthusiastically as a learning tool and reference guide.

Great Illustrations of Stitches
Very easy to understand and organized in a logical way. So glad I read another user’s review and followed their recommendation on this book. I am a newby to embroidery though express myself creatively through many different media. This book has furthered my interest.

Best embroidery stitches book
I've have several other books on embroidery, but never have I seen one as comprehensive as this one. I was amazed to find that not only were stitches shown worked from the top, but also how they looked from the back. It explained the stitches in steps and also uses for them. All illustrations were done by hand by someone and they did an excellent job. It was so easy to see the "how to," "the why to," and "the when to" of every stitch.Love this book!

Good condition. I have been flipping through this book ...
Wow this book came a day earlier than expected! Good condition. I have been flipping through this book a bit and even though I haven't started embroidery yet, I can see the instructions are very clear and they even show what the stitch looks like on the reverse side of the fabric. VERY helpful. I would say that if you are starting embroidery you should invest in this book!

An essential stitch resource for all levels of experience.
Every stitch I've ever heard of, and a few I haven't, is in this book! Each is clearly illustrated in black and white, and many variations are shown. The book is logically divided into type of stitches, such as: Straight, Knotted, Woven, Chain, and more. This would be a great addition to any needle worker's library, from beginner to experienced. After looking through it, I am eager to start a project.I would recommend this book to everyone.

Comprehensive collection of stitches as well as other good information
After looking through many library books to find a good refresher as I resume crewelwork, this book jumped out at me. Perfect for anyone who is either beginning a needlework hobby or resuming one. I think every possible stitch is covered, as well as discussing the back side as well. Some general information was provided on needles, materials, finishing and framing in the first section. I am glad I found this.

Fabulous guide to stitches
I have a few books with stitches that are all color photos, this one is all drawn pictures, easy to follow, but quite different. I especially like the "rhythm" sections and the personal comments. Perhaps not a beginner book, but it fits really nice into my growing embroidery book library!Anna

Good instructions but expected more in the content.
I would have liked more color pictures of finished stiches in a piece of work, like on the cover so I could see what the stiches looked like in a finished piece of work.
