There are so many things I love about this book
I started reading this book while I was killing time in a busy doctor's office, and couldn't put it down. There are so many things I love about this book. It has compelling characters -- I cared deeply about them and felt like I was living their stories with them. It has a lot of romance, and the course of true love does not run smoothly. But the best thing, for me, was the sense of actually being in the various locations in Saudi Arabia featured in the book. The author has spent considerable time there, and she skillfully weaves in history and culture without ever sounding pedantic or boring. Highly recommended!

An Engrossing Novel for Men and Women
Caravan of Brides is a work of fiction, but it’s built on the solid foundation of the author’s tremendous breadth and depth of knowledge about Saudi Arabia, which she skillfully employs to portray traditional thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors while weaving in events of the past to tell the story. She has an intimate and intuitive sense of how men and women interact in a culture that regards women very differently from ours. Her work touches on cultural issues that are as controversial and intense today as they were in the times of the novel’s characters. Caravan of Brides will draw you in just like Elf Laila wa Laila (A Thousand and One Nights) because Kay Campbell, like Shehrezad, is an awesome teller of fascinating tales

sounds and smells are seamlessly intertwined as we meet some wonderfully created characters
This is a superb story set in a place that remains a mystery to most of us. The settings were so real I think I still have some sand in my teeth. History and culture, sights, sounds and smells are seamlessly intertwined as we meet some wonderfully created characters. This is a "can't put it down" experience.

a good story
a realistic look at what Saudi life is like. takes a while to get into it, but the caravan across the desert is a terrific description.

One of the best books I have read. It fits a complicated subject within history and does so with compassion and respect. And it is a great story...about story telling!
