The Blue Hour is the final part of the triptych of albums recorded by the band since they reformed and released 2013's Bloodsports. Produced and mixed by Alan Moulder at Assault & Battery Studios, the album sees Suede continue to explore new ground sonically. It features a choir and spoken word, as well as string arrangements from Craig Armstrong and the band's own Neil Codling. Whatever that is. The Revolver of British guitar music. Not only is it epic theatre dancing with the spirits of the grim dark forces that simmer through the British counties, it contains the bands finest ever performances. Peerless musicianship, classic lyrics and Brett Anderson's biggest and most revealing vocal deliveries to date. You hear the man's bleeding soul absolutely sing in the standout single Life is Golden. Here they transcend the dank beauty of their first two albums and mid career missteps to transform now into the ultimate Suede. And the guitars. My God, the guitars. Utterly sumptuous. No one else can make a record like this.Not only is this Suede's greatest album even slaying the mighty Dog Man Star, The Blue Hour is the greatest album to come out of the UK in a generation. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Time to catch up! *by B***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 20, 2018* I really hadn't invested any time in Suede since they got back together, on the evidence of this album, that's a big mistake on my part. Grand and emotionally charged is a good description I feel, on a level with 'Dog Man Star', and for a band who've been around as long as Suede it's a huge achievement to match what many see as their career highlight. There is more compression than I'd like but the overall sound is still good. The art included is nice but everything is kind loose in the box and slides around-- this could have been done a bit better.
