The Unauthorized Guide To Ubiquiti Routing And Switching Vol1 Paperback – March 3, 2018

This is a great book on how to get the Ubiquiti Edge Routers setup and running for an intermediate or advanced level tech. It allowed me to offer a cheaper and easier solution for my media production clients over a much more complex and expensive competing product, making me happy and saving my clients a big chunk of money....Win-Win!!

Very basic, I was hoping for some deeper CLI understanding for the switches which were very much just a footnote. Most of the book we spent on OSI model and very basic networking introduction. A little routing, firewall, and vpn was discussed. Probably more apt to be titled "Unauthorized overview of edgerouter/edgeswitch" as it had absolutely nothing on the Unifi controller series, or the UNMS controller. Maybe when this was written the UNMS wasn't available.You can pretty much start from 0 knowledge and set up some basic stuff with what this book covers at least on the basic Ubiquiti Edgemax products.

For those who wants to obtain a basic understanding of network, this is a great book to start out with. If user has ubiquiti deivces that will be a plus. After reading this book, I was able to configure the my ubiquiti router and my cisco/ubiquiti switch (I have 2 switches) with the knowledge of OSPF, Vlan, trunking, firewall setup, NAT, port configuration and more! I've a home/small office setup which I have 3 VLans with 3 separate networks I was able to allow my guests to access internet via my AP and guests cannot access my home network. I was able to link up from my home to my work place via vpn setup in the router. I've also configured the setup with my Synology NAS along with my home surveillance IP cameras on Ubiquiti switch (POE). I will be waiting for vol 2 which I believe it will have more information pertaining to Ubiquiti switch setup. I am able to setup some basic firewall rules from routers to the internet and limited access between the vlans as well. I am glad someone wrote a book on Ubiquiti devices configuration and this help me alot on setting up my network!

If you are looking for advanced details of the Edgeswitch, this is not the book. The author hints at a non-existant (at this point) book which will include details regarding the Edgeswitch. As I was needing more advanced details regarding this particular piece of hardware - I was disappointed. It is a great overview of router and switch use.. It does not contain L3 details for switches - only from the aspect of a router. I was hoping to gain more insigned on nuances of Edgeswitch L3.

It's so nice to read a 'technical' book written by a guy who 'gets' that he needs to try to explain the 'HOW' (and the 'WHY' as well) in such a way that it makes sense to novice users--which I believe is the majority of us. I love Kevin's style of writing as well. He makes it 10x more interesting than most technical manuals. Kudos to Kevin!

Great book for entry level or anyone who would like to better understand IP networking, routing and switching. I would also recommend the youtube video's (Ubiquiti Routing and Switching Basics) that the Author of the book has done with Chris from Crosstalk Solutions which will walk you through the practices from the Ubiquity UBRSS Class.

Well done guide, with a bunch of typos which a better thorough analysis and rereading would had fixed.If this is the namely Vol. 1, I hope that the Vol. 2 is near its publishing, with much greater hope in a chapter aimed to Ubiquiti UniFi universe and its oddness compared to much straightforward and “pro-oriented” EdgeMAX line.

I was new to networking and to whole edgemax product line, and this book helped me a lot. Simple explanaiton on what is what and what it is used for.
