As it turns out, this is the correct ballast and the new light connection is better from the old. It has 2 parts. The first is installed on the light housing under the quartz tube retainer (which does require you to turn off the water supply and remove the screwed on retaining ring). The cord then plugs onto the light but the light still does not come on until it is seated on the first part of the housing you will have installed. This prevents you from turning on the light before it is properly set inside the unit to prevent eye damage from the UV light. This little safety feature is probably part of why the old unit is no longer available. The day counter is also a useful addition.
