Kids will find this a fascinating read—& will learn about an extinct animal, but with the added plus of real pictures! It’s not easy to write about an extinct animal, but Lisa pulls it off so well! Only old photos of Tasmanian Tigers in zoos are available (thus black & white), but still, the pictures capture the unique physique and rather creepy look of these amazing dog/kangaroo/tiger-like creatures. Terrific research and very interesting! Fine for both readers and those who like to be read to. (My kiddos are 7, 5, and 4, with the youngest still learning to read; and they LOVE all of Lisa’s books!)

This is not a picture book for kids. The title makes it seem like this is something a child would like to look at (pictures, large text). I bought this for one of my 5th grade students and I had to read it to her. Black and white photos. Color pages in the back. Title is misleading.
