Wow
The books writing style was a bit odd at first, but after a few chapters you get used to it. Without revealing much, I'll say this book was badass. The story was great and well paced. It does do some time skipping throughout, but it's necessary and easy to follow. If you like books about aliens and powers beyond earth, this book is for you.

I am number four
from Murphy's Library -- rated 3 and a half thereJohn Smith has a lot of names, but one person he is for sure: Number Four! And this means his time can be cut short. The Mogadorians killed the first three Gardes--children from Lorien that have the Legacies--and now they can go to the next. That's the way it has to be, and Four needs to be prepared to fight or to run. When I first heard about I Am Number Four I wanted to read it because of the boom around the movie, not exactly because I was attracted by its genre. In fact, I don't read lots of alien books. In my mind, everything about aliens can just be silly like the movie Independence Day. [LOL]I was wrong. I liked I Am Number Four a lot. It's not the type of book that you like from the start, in fact, differently from what happened with Maeva, who didn't put the book down until the end, it took me some time to warm up to the characters. John--or Four--is an easy character to read about, even through he repeats himself too much, but I had a difficult time connecting with the other characters, especially because once Sarah entered the story we read about her a lot! I mean it. It's a lot!I didn't dislike the romance--yes, Four and Sarah have a romance--and I thought that it was well based. We need to understand that John is a teenager and as a teenager he will want a girl. And often teenagers forget the entire world because of love. So, yes, in my opinion the romance was well put together, even through I hope in the next books of this series to have less descriptions of undying love.I truly liked Henri, Four's Cepan who came from Lorien with him, and Bernie Kosar is just the most awesome, erm, dog ever! The team of friends around Four was great, even if it took time to start liking some characters. The fact that Four's romance didn't stop the plot was great too. We continue learning about Lorien and Four's Legacies--his powers--and it is awesome. The book has a good beat and it's enjoyable, and I had a good time once I got reading it fast. But it was in the end that I found myself really cheering for the characters, and finally had a more emotional connection with the story.I thought the author(s) just then got where they wanted, and this is a wonderful promise for the next book in the series: The Power of Six, which I can't wait for to read!

Exciting reading that drags you in
I saw the movie long before I read the book, but despite liking the movie, the book is so much better. I will head onto the other books and look forward to that. Since Hollywood is remaking so many movies perhaps someone will do the book the justice it deserves. Danger, excitement, romance, and suspense are all a part of this excellent story of this wonderfully told story of the refugees of one world finding a home to protect our world.

Wow, what a book
I'm never been a reader, but I read this entire series non-stop. It was absolutely the best series of books I have ever read.I always wished they would have continued. I love the stories. Well done, great job. I watched The movie multiple times, I am four, and after reading the series. All the books, I really wish they would have made movies out of all of them.

I Am Number Four.
I liked the idea of this book. I didn't like all the blood and guts. Hope the rest of the books are as good.

3.5 stars
I am Number Four is one of those books I've had on my To Be Read list for some time. I bought it in Feb 2011 and it's sat on my bookcase since. When a book is turned into a movie I usually like to read it before I watch. Mostly because I have learned that some things in a movie make more sense if you've read the book. Obviously it's much more detailed. With Four, I didn't end up doing that. I saw the movie first because I didn't have time to read the book (my TBR list is ridiculous at this point). The movie intrigued me enough to make me want to read the book even more than I already did. Even with the controversy surrounding it.The reason I finally managed to read it now is because a twitter friend is reading the series and asked if someone would please read them so she could discuss with someone. That pretty much pushed me off the book shelf ledge and I have to say...I'm glad it did.I found the story of Four (or John) to be quite entertaining. It was easily pictured in my mind (not sure if that was because I'd watched the movie or just the descriptive writing) as I read. The characters were complex and interesting, as was this new world Pittacus Lore created. There's back story of how Four/John came to Earth, which really added to the story for me. It explained why he was here, how he got here and how important it was for him to get back home. I love the way it's told in a bit of a diary form. Meaning, you're led to believe this is John's real story. That there are these aliens out there in our world and they are only here because they had to escape their own planet. The story is also about the enemy, the reason for John's existence on Earth being after him and the others of his kind. It explains why they took over his planet and why they want to, inevitably, take over Earth as well. And even though I enjoyed that part of the story, I also really like that it wasn't the only part of John's life we were able to see. There's also teen love, friendship, bullying-- things that most anyone can relate to in some form or another. So John's an alien, but he's also a human teenage boy, trying to sludge his way through high school. Ya know, while also being stalked by crazy powerful aliens that want to kill him. It's just another day in his life.I had to pause before starting book two but I can't wait to leap back into the Lorien Legacies world as soon as possible. If you're looking for something a little different, I'd say you can't go wrong with I am Number Four.

libro o película
No lo he llegado a leer, pero lo haré, aunque esté en inglés, aunque ya haya visto la película.Estaría bien que lo sacaran en castellano, la saga completa.

Loved it. Aliens hide on earth. Bad aliens hunt them down. Epic battle scene. Well written. And there's a dog.
