We purchased this one as well as the Winning Design book. My son preferred this book as it was more his style of robot and he liked the tips and approach. Both are good resources, but this is his go to resource for new tips and tricks that he shares with his lego team. My son has been participating in lego robotics for 3 years now, starting in 4th grade. Our program is not as advanced or sophisticated as other schools, so this helped to "level the playing field" with others and will help him and his team maximize their design. Good luck with your lego build!

Good but can leave reader confused
Confusing. I like the book a lot but not well edited. Example: says above figure 92, that the mat and the walls of the table may not even be parallel with one another and that only markings on the mat itself can be depended upon to be true but then goes on to recommend wall following as a method of robot path alignment. If mat isn’t truly aligned with walls of table, then wall following won’t work. Not reconciled in text.

very well organized & overall nice book !!
Brought this book for my son and found it very useful. It’s a great book for kids/ students who are interested in robotics specially FLLVery well organized and it covers details about elements of robotic architecture, and robot design.My son loves to learn and experiment with his robot design and this book helps him to get basic details and explore more.Books covers details explanation of programming elements, flow, structure and sensors. It has lots of pictures/ figures with explanations which makes it more useful.I will recommend this for kids/ students who love robotics and want to explore / learn more. Overall nice Book !!

It does not have colored pictures
This book is very good and informative however I was disappointed to see that it is all black and white. For $35 and no colored pictures... I found it very expensive.I am wondering whether I got a photocopy if the real book as I see that in the programming section of the book there r text that say ‘the blocks highlighted in red ....’ and ‘ the ones in orange..’I will see if I can return it.

Bought this book for my daughter as she’s preparing for the FLL and was not disappointed. The book is well structured for multiple audiences: for students to give them an understanding of the basics of robotics, and FLL; for parents to help them understand the FLL process, what to expect, and how to help their kids prepare. As the book advances through the chapters, it builds upon previously explained concepts and makes it easier to understand robotics. After explaining the concepts of mechanics and software the later chapters explain specifically how the EV3 architecture works. Once you build upon the concepts your able to handle any type of robotics challenges. She’s also able to use the mechanics explained in this book to other science projects elsewhere.

Awesome book for First Lego League (FLL) and Robotics in general
My daughter and her friends started learning robotics three months back and this book provides the right level of detail to them. Apart from really useful inputs to help during First Lego League the reader can get very clear, detailed, step-by-step understanding of a) Common problems b) Options available c) How to chose the best option?The explanation of what, how and why on robotics design is the key highlight of this book. Great work.

Good, detailed book.
I purchased this book for my son who takes Robotics classes. This book is very informative and has been helping him understand the classes and complete the projects given to him.

Great Resource for FLL teams!
This book is a great Resource for FLL teams! Bought this for son who wanted to get understanding of FLL competition. The detailed coverage of relevant topics for robot designs, mechanical systems and pictures are very useful. The book also covers sensors, robot navigation and programming. The suggestions in all areas are very helpful for elementary level FLL teams to get started and keep as reference.

Buen libro de iniciación
El libro es bueno y esta bien organizado en secciones temáticas. Pare empezar da un montón de información útil. Es una pena que los gráficos sean en blanco y negro ya que se pierde información tanto de los montajes como de la programación.

Great book... Written by an engineer and not proof read for sure.Helpful, worth the purchase.

Great resource
A great resource for FLLers and robotics enthusiasts. The programming was very useful and comprehensive. The only thing that may have helped is a section on building instructions for useful attachments.
