The Flight of a Butterfly or the Path of a Bullet?: Using Technology to Transform Teaching and Learning

Another great book from Cuban
Absolutely one of the best education historians/researchers out there. While its an admittedly limited study, there are some great insights on the use of ed tech in K12 classrooms. Highly recommended.

A good work on educational change
A good work on educational change, mediated through technology, and a good update to Larry Cuban's work on the impact of technology in education.

Two Stars
Mostly what one can expect based on his initial premise;. Also does not have his usual flair in writing

Less interesting than his earlier works
I feel like Larry Cuban's books on technology and learning have steadily gotten less interesting over time. Probably his most interesting book on the topic was Teachers and Machines. What he fails to understand about computers is that, unlike television, radio, and film, computers and other digital media have transformed the means of production of knowledge. What is most important about computers in schools is thus not how they change *teaching* but how they change *learning,* for example, by allowing students to collaboratively compose, revise, and publish an original written or digital story; or program a robot; or analyze and visualize complex data. By failing to interrogate the the importance of computers for student learning, Cuban keeps repeating the similar story of change and constancy in education at he has been writing about for decades.
