We recently designed these stunning created opal earrings to go with the opal necklace we have also made. The earrings have been made in 10K yellow gold and set with vibrant simulated opals displaying flashes of light blue, turquoise and pink colours that are hard to capture on camera. As you turn them in the light you will be amazed by their fire and all the amazing colours! The round cabochon opals are bezel set and each earring measures 8.5mm in diameter. The posts are centrally placed for best positioning. More about Lab Created Opals The physical and optical properties of our created opals are similar to those of natural opal. The main difference is that our opals have been impregnated with an extremely hard polymer which permanently binds the opal silica spheres together. The resulting opal is 80-90% pure opal silica, just like a natural opal, and with a chemical composition that’s similar. Our opals exhibit a play of colour and vibrancy only seen in the most prized of precious opals. These vivid flashes of colour are not easily found in naturally occurring opals as it is so rare and consequently usually very expensive. Our created opals are unique and have a vibrant play of colour that is almost indistinguishable from natural opal, however they are far more affordable and look fabulous. The treatment of our opals results in the advantage of generally being stronger and more stable than natural opals, making them less vulnerable to cracking or drying.
