An soundtrack in the style of "Epic Hollywood" flicks
When news came out that ARR was collaborating with famed Iranian director Majid Majidi for a film on Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, it arguably created a huge buzz. Now that finally, the soundtrack has had a proper release (thank you Amazon for making this available in India) let's see what ARR has given us. Here's a glimpse at what some of the tracks have to offer to the listener:The album kicks off with "Prologue - The Infinite Light" with Nikita Gandhi's ethereal voice and a huge soaring orchestral cue reminding one of a Hans Zimmer (could have sworn that I heard brief glimpses of "The Lion King" and for a very brief moment of Howard Shore's "The Prophecy" from LOTR (The Fellowship of the Ring). The next track "Makkah 740 AD" has the stock in trade, middle eastern musical sounds and the drums give a touch of Peter Gabriel's "The Last Temptation of Christ", but still bang on target.A very dramatic "Ababeel" is next and would definitely fit any action movie battle sequence perfectly with heavy drums and a grandchoir."Signs of the Last Prophet" starts out quietly with Nikhita Gandhi humming the intro sequence and all the orchestral forces and choirs are unleashed in full force. Things quieten down a bit in "The Birth". Followed by "And He Was Named Muhammad (SAL)" which appears to be a celebration of the Prophet's birth as toward the end you can hear some chanting."Roubbama" composed by Le Trio Joubran starts out cautiously and makes for a relaxing listen. "The Camel's Divine Intervention" starts out with sounds of the Oudh and some percussion before the choir jumps in once again. "Through the Sands" starts out with Sana Mousa humming and about a minute or so later, a cello (remember Yuvvraaj?) kicks in with the orchestra and the oudh rings in a theme which appears to be similar to the "Ya Muhammad" song's first stanza (this is the last track in the album) before fading out. A loud operatic chanting something like "Safiullah" (this is also part of the final number) starts the "Sea Miracle" and then Natalie's charming voice takes over, however, the chorus and grand instrumentation dominate the entire track."The Sermon" starts out with a low humming and a children's chorus joins the proceedings. Then suddenly, the intro theme from the opening track come back to end this number. Ya Muhammad ( SAL), the final track starts out with a grand, operatic chorus chanting "sallallahu...." before it settles down and a children's choir is also present. ARR also chips in with his voice briefly assisted by a children's choir and other singers in this moving song. A fitting conclusion to this magnificent album.PS: Most of the score is heavy in orchestra and voices (Hans Zimmer's influence is obvious, not that this is a bad thing, just saying), lots of bombast and a few tender moments. With a bit of tweaking, this score would fit any epic action movie! I'm slightly disappointed that this soundtrack did not get much more publicity than anticipated.
